Why I Quit Facebook

By Primoz Bozic 7 Comments

My palms were sweating. I was sick in my stomach. I could feel the tension building up in my body.

Then I did it.

I pressed the mouse button to make one of the scariest decisions I’ve made in a while.

I waited for a moment. Nothing.

The next moment, relief slowly started kicking in. The tension in my body slowly started to release. The stomach started to untangle. It felt like a huge rock was dropping off my shoulders. And slowly, a smile formed on my face.

I had just deleted my Facebook account.

When I announced the day before that I would be doing that, and encouraged my Facebook friends to reach out to me via email in the future, the reactions were mixed.

Some of them said “good for you!”. Some said “I wanted to do the same but never did it”. Some said “Are you sure you want to do this?” And some of them were just sad.

But everyone had one thing in common – they were shocked.

Over the past few years, I’ve built a decent following and reputation on Facebook, and whenever I posted something on my wall or in one of the communities I was a part of, I would always get a big response, which would help me spread the word about my work.

I also used Facebook to connect with and stay in touch with a lot of online entrepreneurs. Nowadays messaging with someone on Facebook is one of the easiest ways to start or continue building a relationship. All it takes is to open and app and shoot a message to someone you want to talk to. Being an entrepreneur I had to use the app to communicate with a lot of people.

And of course, if you’re not on Facebook nowadays, you’re “missing out”. You’re missing out on birthday party invites, interesting events you could attend, posts in Facebook groups that could be valuable for your business, potential publicity opportunities, and so on.

By quitting Facebook, I would throw all of those opportunities away and could potentially hurt my business and my relationships.

But even though all of those things are true, quitting Facebook wasn’t a shock or a radical decision for me. It was more like a logical next step and something that I saw coming.

To fully understand why I made this decision (and why it really isn’t that surprising), we need to go back in time for a few months.

THE CONVERSATION THAT CHANGED MY LIFE

A few months ago I was having a conversation with a client and a friend, Allon.

Allon is a high-performance coach for online entrepreneurs and he has managed three #1 tennis players in the world, including Novak Djokovic.

Allon wanted to find a few online entrepreneurs to work with and help them become high performers and top authorities in the online business world.

As he mentioned that, I thought to myself: “Damn, I wish I could work with Allon!” And then it dawned on me. Why couldn’t I? I told Allon that I’d be happy to become his first mentee if he’s interested in working with me – and he said yes.

That single conversation a few months ago completely changed the trajectory of my life in the future months. It was the beginning of my journey to “stop messing around” and become a professional online entrepreneur.

I was sick and tired of running my business as a hobby and in a half-assed way. I knew I could perform on a really high level, but I struggled with doing it consistently. I had times when I would write tens of thousands or words a week and create a ton of incredible content, but I also had times when I just wasted my time on email, Facebook and other addictions without really creating any meaningful work.

I was hoping that Allon would help me break out of that and perform on a high level consistently by helping me build the right mindsets, habits and character. I was willing to do whatever it takes to get there.

HOW I STARTED MY JOURNEY OF BECOMING A PROFESSIONAL ENTREPRENEUR

The first thing that we did with Allon was start working on creating the so-called “power blocks”, which he talks about in his Ultimate Guide to High Performance. These were uninterrupted windows of highly focused work where I would go to a coffee shop for a few hours before and after my workout and just crank out some writing.

This single habit already made a huge impact on my business, and I was able to write 102,522 words of remarkable content in 28 days of writing shortly after we started working together. I wrote the whole email sequence for the Ultimate Guide System plus a few long and detailed blog posts that you can find on my blog.

The next habit we started working on were the so-called “online blocks”. These were block of time during which I was supposed to take care of all my email, coaching done in my Ultimate Guide System community, browsing and checking Instagram and Facebook.

Out of all the habits that we worked on with Allon, this one was the hardest one to form (or rather break). I’ve tried staying off from social media and mindless browsing with limited success in the past, and this time was no different.

Sure, I was able to drastically decrease the time I spent on browsing, and that helped. But I still found myself regularly checking my phone to see “if there’s anything new”. I would check my email multiple times a day. I would do the same with Facebook notifications and Facebook messages. Then I would go on to check my Instagram account and the different news websites. And sometimes over the weekend, I would go on YouTube and start watching random YouTube videos.

I often spent hours and hours mindlessly browsing the internet when I wasn’t at my coffee shop writing. When I had a 15-minute break, I would always check my phone. I hate to admit it but I was addicted to it. I always had this nagging feeling in the back of my mind that I should “check what’s new”.

The worst part of it was that I was “one of those people” that constantly stared their phones. When I was hanging out with my girlfriend in the evening, we were often on our phones. When we were hanging out with our friends the same thing happened. And even when I was visiting my family for lunch I sometimes constantly checked the phone. The same thing happened when I was waiting in line at a grocery store, and (this is the worst of all) sometimes even while driving.

It was clear to me that being addicted to the internet was bad for me. Not only did it put me in danger while driving, it also wasn’t good for my business (I could be reading books during that time) and horrible for my relationships. My girlfriend often got mad at me for being on my phone all the time, and she was right.

This went on for a few weeks, until a few other things happened that helped me get rid of my internet addiction.

MY SERENDIPITOUS TRIP TO ISRAEL

Allon and I are both huge sports fans and we often chat about how our teams are doing. One Monday morning he sent me a random message saying “Hey, if you want to be super spontaneous you can visit me in Israel this weekend. Slovenia is playing Israel in a friendly basketball match, and we could go see it together!”

To most people it would seem crazy to go to Israel on a 2-day notice, and they’d never do it. Me? I love taking trips like these. I needed a vacation anyway, and I loved the idea of spending a few days with Allon and sinking in all of his wisdom. So I bought my flight tickets and made it to Israel the next Thursday.

During our trip we made it to the basketball match (where Slovenia unfortunately lost):

But while the basketball match was nice, it wasn’t the highlight of the trip. Hanging out with Allon for a few days was.

Allon is different than most people. As soon as you start talking to him, you notice that he’s clearly an expert at what he does. He seems like he has a great answer to every single question related to high performance. It didn’t matter whether I asked him about money management, deep focused work, overcoming self-doubt or anything else. He always knew how to give me incredibly valuable advice.

Over the few days that I stayed with him we had countless incredible conversations – more than I would usually have in a year. We were constantly talking about how to become better in different areas of our lives while chilling by the pool or taking a long walk on the beach.

Even though I learned an incredible amount over the few days I spent in Israel, the knowledge itself wasn’t the most powerful thing for me. The most valuable thing of all was seeing the lifestyle of a true high performer.

Allon lives a very different life from most people. He doesn’t spend almost any time on Facebook or email. He doesn’t constantly check his phone. Throughout my whole trip, I haven’t even seen him sit behind a computer once.

Instead, he’s actually focusing on living a life. He’s always present when he talks to you. He spends a lot of time reading, learning, meditating, having great conversations, playing with his son and his dog, or talking to his wife. And it seems like he’s genuinely happy while he does that. He’s not constantly worrying or stressing out about emails or rapidly checking social media.

As I watched Allon and his life, I realized that this is the lifestyle that I wanted to have. I want to live a rich, abundant lifestyle where I help a lot of people, but I don’t want to be checking emails for 5 hours a day.

Seeing Allon living this lifestyle AND being extremely successful made me realize that success doesn’t need to come with sacrificing your whole life. Instead, I had the feeling that this lifestyle that Allon created for himself actually fuels his success.

PURSUING THE ROAD TO EXCELLENCE AND MASTERY

As I spent more and more time with Allon, it soon became clear that he reads and learns a TON. He has taken hundreds of online courses. He has read thousands of books. He has been consistently focused on learning and improving himself for the last 20 years.

It started to make sense to me WHY I was getting that feeling that he “knows everything” and seeing him as an incredibly wise expert. It was because over the last 20 years, he did two things consistently. He learned, and he put the advice into action.

Over the years, he has accumulated an enormous bank of knowledge and expertise that now makes it seem like he effortlessly knows a solution to every single problem you might be having.

I realized that that’s one of the things I haven’t been doing as well as I would have wanted to. I knew that I could learn, improve and grow my business very quickly when I learned a lot in the past, but I wasn’t regularly doing that lately. Allon told me that creating a routine where I for example improve my writing every single day would have a HUGE impact on my business in the long run, and I agreed with him.

When I came home from Israel, I made a commitment to myself to figure out how to truly become an expert and achieve mastery. My chosen area of expertise? Writing. My goal is to become one of the top 5 writers in the online business world – a goal that is absolutely achievable, and a goal that won’t just magically “happen”, but will need to be achieved through a lot of deliberate hard work.

In order to figure out HOW to get there, I began rapidly learning about mastery, excellence and expertise. I read books like So Good They Can’t Ignore You and Deep Work by Cal Newport, I read the Talent Myth from Matthew Wallace, I listened to a few episodes of the Finding Mastery podcast from Michael Gervais, I listened to a few interviews from people like Derek Halpern, T Harv Eker and so on – all in a matter of weeks.

The more books I read and the more interviews I listened to, the more clarity I had about how to become a true expert.

Here are a few crucial things that I learned:

#1 – There is no such thing as talent

Mozart wasn’t a musical prodigy when he was born. Tiger Woods didn’t become an incredible golfer because of his “talent”. Most of the olympic medal winners don’t become olympic medal winners because of their “gifts”.

All incredibly successful from different walks of life have one thing in common: They worked their asses off to become insanely good at what they did. In most cases, a lot of them had access to great teachers and opportunities to practice their when they were extremely young, getting thousands of hours of practice in when their competitors weren’t even thinking about golfing.

Because they put in so many hours of quality practice so early on in their careers, they were far superior to their competitors who started training at a later age, and seemed like prodigies, when in reality they really just had the unfair advantage of putting in more quality practice.

The emphasis here is on QUALITY practice. Anders Ericsson, one of the top sports psychologists out there called this “deliberate practice”. Cal Newport calls it “deep work”.

Regardless of what we call it, the reality is that if you want to get really freaking good at something, you need to put in the high quality, focused, and often uncomfortable work.

If I for example played tennis for 10 hours a week for 10 years with a friend, would I get better? Absolutely. But if I never actually practiced it and just played, I wouldn’t become a world class tennis player.

If on the other hand I hired an amazing coach for 1on1 lessons and spent 5 hours a week practicing with him, while spending the other 5 hours playing matches or attending tournaments, chances are I would become a world-class tennis player over the course of 10 years as I would put in thousands and thousands of hours of high quality practice.

This was an important realization for me because until I dug into it, I subconsciously believed that some people are just “more gifted or talented” than me, and made me feel helpless. Now I see that’s not true, which made me realize that I can become an expert at anything I want to, IF I’m willing to put in the hard work.

#2 – You can be an expert at anything in 10 years

One of the things that Allon constantly reminds me of is that you can achieve anything you want to in 10 years.

Originally I had trouble believing that, and imagining it for myself. Could I really become a Hollywood actor in 10 years? Could I really run a billion dollar business? Could I really become a professional footballer in that time frame?

As I explored “the talent myth” and realized that the practice is really what turns you into an expert, it all started to make sense.

You’ve probably heard of the “10,000 hour rule” to become an expert. Cal Newport talks about this rule in So Good They Can’t Ignore You, where he makes the point that just 10,000 hours isn’t enough – 5,000 of those 10,000 hours need to be deliberate practice.

He proves that thesis by a study that was done on professional chess players. The chess players that spent 9,000 hours out of the 10,000 hours playing tournament games (and not studying how to get better at chess) became intermediate players. The players that spent 5,000 out of the 10,000 hours studying their game and the games of other people became grandmasters.

Coincidentally, you can only get about 1,000 hours of really highly focused practice in every year (as highly focused practice is tiring and straining), which means that you’ll likely need about 10 years to put in the 10,000 hours and become really great at what you do.

Hearing about this I started to BELIEVE that I could achieve anything I wanted to with 10 years of deliberate practice and constant improvement. It would be hard NOT to become great at what I do if I really put in the years of hard work and daily improvement.

#3 – Removing distractions is the key to consistently progressing towards mastery

As I listened to some of the Finding Mastery interviews with Michael Gervais (he’s the mental toughness coach for Seattle Seahawks and from Felix Baumgartner, the guy who took a balloon to the space and jumped from it), I could see the same pattern repeating over and over again.

The athletes that became the best in the world at what they did were focused on improving themselves every day through deliberate practice, and spending as much time as possible “in the zone” of presence, calm and focus. This focus is what enables them to get in the thousands of hours of high quality practice that helps them become the best in the world at what they do.

This made me realize that just “trying to learn something new every day” wasn’t enough. I needed to find big blocks of focused, uninterrupted time in my schedule where I could learn and improve my skills. If I managed to do that, then failing to improve really wouldn’t be an option any more.

This is where quitting Facebook and social media comes in.

THE COST OF BEING ON FACEBOOK

As I’ve mentioned in the beginning of this article, Facebook has a lot of benefits for an online entrepreneur. But few people really consider the cost and the downsides of being on Facebook.

For me, Facebook (and other social media like Instagram) was not only a considerable time suck. It was also something that my brain was constantly thinking about, and taking my focus away.

I constantly thought to myself “I need to see if there’s something new.” “I need to check if someone messaged me.” “I need to see how people liked my blog post that I just published.”

Even if I logged out of Facebook, set myself set hours to access it, or even blocked my access to it through apps like Freedom, it didn’t help.

I still felt like my brain was wired and addicted to it. It was always in the back of my mind. I need to check Facebook. I need to check Instagram. I need to check my email. I need to check news websites. I had that thought in the back of my mind over and over again, and it took away my focus from the tasks at hand.

On top of that, there was the obvious browsing Facebook (which isn’t really helpful), responding (or feeling guilty for not responding) to messages from random people who would message me, or replying to questions in the Facebook comments that would continue to suck out my time and energy.

Even if I managed not to check Facebook when I was writing, I still checked it every chance that I would get. On the toilet, in the elevator, sometimes even in the car. I often spent a lot of time on it in the evening, rather than spending quality time with my friends, family or my girlfriend, or reading to improve myself.

Being on social media was hurting my business and my lifestyle, and I knew I had to do something about it.

WHY I QUIT FACEBOOK

By the time I quit Facebook last Saturday, the decision was quite easy to make. It was a “gut feeling” decision. I knew it was the right thing to do.

As I’ve spent a lot of my time thinking about what my big vision of what I want to achieve in 10 years is and studying the HOW to get there, I realized that I was SAYING that I wanted to achieve these incredible feats, but what I was DOING wasn’t getting me there as fast as I could.

I realized that if I really wanted to become an expert at what I do, reach all of my goals and live this incredible life that’s similar to Allon’s life, I needed to live a lifestyle that would help me get there. I would have to spend a lot of time each day on deep, focused work to get better at my craft. I would need to spend a lot of time learning, reading, and listening to rapidly gain new knowledge. I would need to spend the rest of the time doing the things I loved and spending quality time with loved ones.

Being on social media didn’t fit into either of those things. It wasn’t deep work. It wasn’t deep learning. And it wasn’t spending quality time.

In that moment when I had that realization, I knew that Facebook needed to go. I was nervous when I made the decision to delete my account, but on the other hand I knew it was the right thing to do.

I pulled the trigger and pressed that DELETE button. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

“BUT WHAT ABOUT ALL THE BENEFITS OF FACEBOOK?”

In the grand scheme of things, quitting Facebook was an easy decision for me. But that doesn’t mean I didn’t worry about “missing out” on all the benefits of it. I definitely had a bitter taste in my mouth as I pressed that button.

There were 3 major concerns I had towards quitting Facebook, and this is how I worked through them:

#1 – “I won’t be able to promote my content through Facebook anymore”

When I share something remarkable on my Facebook account, many of my Facebook friends read, comment or share it. It’s one of the easiest ways to spread my work in a matter of minutes, and can bring hundreds or even thousands of new visitors to my website with the small viral effect that happens.

Not posting my content on Facebook any more will take away from my website traffic, email subscriber growth and sales for sure. And yet, that’s the sacrifice I’m willing to make.

As I’ve built a bigger and bigger following and a reputation on Facebook, it became comfortable to just create content and spread the word about it there. A lot of people in my audience would read whatever I wrote anyway, and a lot of them would share my content with others if they saw that I wrote something new.

I was also a part of a few online communities where I had a lot of authority, and where I could continue to spread the word about this content.

The problem with all of this was that it became too comfortable for me. Yes, sharing my content on Facebook would attract thousands of visitors to my website every month, BUT that number wouldn’t drastically go up. It would consistently stay the same.

I realized that by focusing so much on promoting my content, I was taking away the focus from what REALLY matters – creating high quality content that people will read and feel compelled to share with others because of how good it is.

That would allow me to actually GROW my audience in the long run, and not only keep my existing audience engaged. I took it a step further and decided to create content that’s so good that people who know me (and people who don’t know me) will share it on Facebook and in different online communities even if I never share it there.

This new focus on really creating stellar content that people won’t be able to resist talking about is more in line with my goals and my future, and will be better for me in the long run than spending time promoting content on Facebook.

One concern down, two to go.

#2 – “I will miss out on all the relationships I could build through Facebook”

Facebook makes it easier than ever to connect with new people, or “stay in touch” with old friends and people that you meet through conferences and online.

I’ve been able to connect with quite a few people through Facebook and even chat with a few major online influencers regularly to stay in touch.

For a long time, I thought I would be “missing out” on these relationships if I get off Facebook. And the reality is that that might be true to some extent. Some people are more responsive through Facebook than they are through email. I might fall out of touch with some people that I used to talk to regularly.

On the other hand, it’s important to realize that Facebook is just a medium of communication. The way I see it, if you really want to connect with someone and they want to connect with you, you can usually reach them in another way. You can email them or jump on a Skype call with them.

One of the downsides of Facebook is that while it’s easy to “stay in touch”, I don’t think the relationships that you build through Facebook messages in MOST (but not all) cases are pretty surface level, and not the deep, lasting relationships.

I would argue that spending the same amount of time on Skype as I would spend messaging people on Facebook would actually be a lot better for creating a new relationship or staying in touch as that would add a lot more depth and focus to our conversations.

Looking at it from that angle, not being on Facebook might not be that bad. I’d rather do a few Skype calls with the people I want to stay in touch with every month than to spend the same amount (or even longer) messaging back and forth with them. It’s a bigger bang for your buck for everyone.

I believe staying off Facebook will actually be better for my relationships in the long run, as I won’t build the relationships the lazy way, and rather create deep, lasting relationships by focusing on actually spending quality time with people I care about.

#3 – “I’ll meet out on all the events that are happening around me!”

Facebook Events tool is pretty damn powerful. You can use it to organize meet ups and birthday parties within minutes and invite the cool people from your network to them in just a few clicks.

I acknowledge that by not being on Facebook, I’ll likely miss out on some of these events, as I might have no idea they were even happening.

Still, if I look at it from a similar lens as on building relationships, that’s not necessarily so bad. I know that the people who I’ll have strong relationships with will invite me to those events that they’re hosting anyway (another reason to focus on building strong relationships the old fashioned way).

I also know that if I regularly spend the time staying in touch with people that I care about, they’ll let me know if some cool events are happening out there, even if I don’t find them on Facebook myself. I know that I might still miss out on some of the events, but I’m sure I’ll still make it to the important ones.

These were the major reasons that prevented me from leaving Facebook. There are others of course (like not being able to do research in online Facebook groups etc.), and for every one of them I simply asked myself “how would I do this if Facebook didn’t exist?”. I was always able to find an answer within minutes, and in many cases it ended up leading to a higher quality activity than spending time on Facebook.

WHAT MY LIFE IS LIKE AFTER FACEBOOK

I quit Facebook last Saturday, and today it’s Friday. This means that I’ve been off from Facebook for almost a whole week now. You might be wondering what my life is like without Facebook. Is it really that different?

And for me, I’d have to say YES. It feels like so much has changed to the positive over the past week that it’s crazy.

First of all, I no longer have this nagging feeling in the back of my mind that I “should check what’s new”. It’s gone. It’s like not having the feeling that I really need a beer right now. Not having this feeling is incredibly freeing and allows me to focus a lot better on what I’m doing – whether I’m writing or spending time with my girlfriend.

I notice that I now check my phone WAY less than I used to. I only really use my phone to send messages, make phone calls, read books or listen to audiobooks, and record videos in the gym. I don’t have Instagram and Facebook accounts any more, I can’t access email from my phone, and all of the websites I used to mindlessly browse are now blocked (Freedom app is awesome). The same thing is true for my laptop.

I can only really check email on my iMac that I have at home, and it’s incredibly freeing to not even have the option to check it otherwise.

Because of this, I find myself reading and learning a lot more, which feels awesome. I also feel like I’m really getting the most out of life by spending 95% of my days on high quality activities, whether that’s working, learning or spending quality time with people I care about.

Do I miss Facebook? Honestly, I don’t. I like feeling more free and less wired and addicted. I feel so much happier now that I’m not obsessing about all the things that are happening around me or things I’m missing out on, and just focusing on living a happy life where I’m steadily refining my craft and building a business that will impact millions of people all over the world.

Am I on Allon’s level yet? No, but I’m getting there. There are definitely things I still could be doing better like being even more present and concentrating better, letting my mind wander less etc., but that’s not something you change in a week. It’s something that changes through years of deliberate practice.

Quitting Facebook definitely feels like the right decision for me, and I have zero regrets about it. Now the question is… Should you do the same?

SHOULD YOU QUIT FACEBOOK TOO?

My opinion on whether you should quit Facebook / social media is two part:

– I don’t think EVERYONE should quit social media
– I do think that a lot of people would benefit from quitting social media

As mentioned in the beginning of this post, Facebook CAN be a great tool for building an online business. A lot of the business relationships I’ve built in the early days were through Facebook. I got a lot of help through different Facebook based online communities of online business courses when I was starting on with my online business. Being on Facebook definitely helped me jump start my online business and make a name out of myself online.

If you’re just starting out with your online business, Facebook can be a great tool that you can leverage for building an audience and the right relationships, if you actually use it very wisely and strategically to build the right relationships, do customer research and spread the word about what you do.

Having said that, there are two questions remaining:

#1 – Is Facebook the BEST way to achieve those goals? Or are there other alternatives that could be better / more powerful for what you want to accomplish?

#2 – Are you REALLY using Facebook in the best way possible (or are you wasting a ton of time on it)?

If you tend to spend way too much time on Facebook, limiting your time on it daily to a one hour block might be a good idea – or removing it completely (if you notice it distracts you from your important work way too much).

If you really want to dig into this, Cal Newport talks about quitting social media in his book Deep Work, which I highly recommend. He shares a framework that will help you decide for yourself what’s best for you.

What I can say is that quitting worked way better for me than limiting it to an hour a day because I tend to think about it a lot if I do have daily access to it. I’m the type of person that likes to either go “all out” on something or to not do something at all.

For me, this is definitely the right choice.

How Nick Earned $3,049 (And Got a JOB OFFER) Within Days of Publishing His Ultimate Guide

By Primoz Bozic Leave a Comment

Here’s a question I get a lot…

“Can I actually make money with an Ultimate Guide?”

The answer is yes. HELL YES.

Today I’m thrilled to introduce you to Ultimate Guide System graduate Nick, who used his Ultimate Guide to bring in 4 consulting clients (worth $3,094) AND a job offer within days of publishing his Ultimate Guide.

Meet Nick Wolny:

Nick is known for two things:

  1. Eating peanut butter & scrambled eggs for breakfast during the Ultimate Guide System live calls
  2. He’s establishing himself as the go-to expert in Facebook Advertising and Digital Marketing for local fitness and yoga businesses

A few months ago, Nick was still working as a general business coach for fitness businesses. He saw some initial success with his business idea as he got the first few clients through his network, but then the things slowed down.

He exhausted his network and knew that he needed to build an audience.

He knew that in order to do that, he would need to stand out and find a more specific niche. He decided to pivot to digital marketing consulting, as he saw a gap in the market when he worked with his first few clients.

As he did that, he had a huge imposter syndrome when he thought about writing about digital marketing, as he felt like he was competing with companies like Digital Marketer. Those people had 10+ years of experience, while he acquired his skills just over a year ago. Why would anyone listen to him?

Still, he put himself out there. He started writing. He tried to create truly remarkable content.

And that’s where he got stuck.

He knew he needed to create remarkable content to cut through the noise, but didn’t know HOW to do it.

He didn’t know how to create remarkable, meaty content that people would find insanely valuable and want to work with him after reading it.

“The content i created wasn’t research driven, and wasn’t rigorous (which makes the difference in content). I tried to be too charming in my writing. I tried to wriggle my way into creating valuable content by making people laugh. But the content I created wasn’t deep and valuable. It was charming surface level content, and that was it. There was no meat in my content.

My email subscribers responded to my emails with responses like “LOL”, and not with detailed emails about how they’d implement my strategies in their businesses. I wasn’t attracting clients that wanted to do the work. I attracted readers that wanted to be entertained.

Every time I tried to write a post longer than 1,500 words, I failed. I couldn’t deliver a long, valuable piece of content. I didn’t know how to do it, what to talk about or how to structure it. There were so many tripwires where I got stuck and never finished my writing. From coming up with a title, to validating the idea with my market, to creating a table of contents… I was never able to finish my pieces.”

That’s when Nick joined Ultimate Guide System. In fact, he was the first person to sign up for it.

“I wanted a system that would help me get email subscribers that didn’t feel like sh*t”

“I noticed how I behaved through Ramit Sethi’s Ultimate Guides. Whenever I saw one, I stopped everything I was doing and read them. I wanted to get every single bonus with the guide. I wanted to read everything. There’s just something magnetic about Ultimate Guides. I wanted to do that for my audience too.

I wanted a system that would help me get email subscribers that didn’t feel like shit. I didn’t want to do things like 5 day challenges or messenger bots. I wanted to focus on ONE QUALITY way of getting email subscribers. I knew writing an Ultimate Guide would force me to focus on one thing that works. It would put guard rails around what I’m doing, and allow me to go really deep on a topic.

I really just wanted to say “hey, I’m Nick, I’m going to offer this super valuable thing to these people who think just like me, and see what happens”.”

Nick ended up successfully writing his first Ultimate Guide with Ultimate Guide System:

The Complete Beginner’s Guide To Monetizing Facebook Live For Your Fitness Or Yoga Business

Just a few weeks into the program, as he was doing the research with his Ultimate Guide, Nick not only got one, but TWO paying clients:

Nick sharing his wins in the UGS community

Nick’s first client with his Ultimate Guide

This essentially paid for the whole course within WEEKS of joining it.

So how did it happen?

“Two people reached out to me when they saw me do the market research validation on my Facebook wall. We sat down, talked about what they needed, and they signed up with me as consulting clients. I made my full investment for the course back within weeks of joining it.”

Once he published his guide, he got 2 more consulting clients from it that reached out to him:

A potential client reaching out to Nick after he published his Ultimate Guide

Nick’s $1,500 3-month retainer client

This brought the total revenues from his guide to $3,094 within a few days of publishing his first guide.

But here’s the best part of Nick’s story.

Shortly after publishing his guide, a CEO of a company reached out to him to offer him a job interview for a marketing director position because of his guide:

Since then, Nick has made it to the 5th round of interviews over the past 5 weeks, and he might very well be getting a new job because of his Ultimate Guide. Even I never expected that something like that would happen through an Ultimate Guide. That’s absolutely insane.

“People now perceive me as an expert. They want to work with me because I know what they need, even if they don’t.”

Here’s what Nick loved the most about his new clients:

“With all of my 4 clients, they came to me and said “I’m not sure what I need, but I’m ready to pay – just name the price.” This was super interesting to me and SO AWESOME, because I was never good at sales, pitching or cold calling.

I didn’t need to “sell” these people, they were already sold. For them to come to me and for that to happen multiple times, and to say “I’m not sure what I need but I want to pay you because you know what I need”, that’s incredible. It feels like people perceive me as an expert. They want to work with someone who will know what they need, even if they don’t, and that person is now me.”

“More and more cool things are happening to me because of my guide”

“After I published my guide, Leadpages reached out to me and wanted to interview me about my guide. They’re planning on featuring me as an expert in their next Ultimate Guide that’s coming out later this week.

Another cool thing that happened was that some of my idols and heroes from the online business world that I followed for a while signed up to my email list. Now I know I really gotta bring it. I need to keep my email list engaged, and I’m expected to bring my A-game.”

No more “LOL!” email responses!

And guess what? He’s no longer getting “LOL!” email responses, but actual detailed emails with questions from his potential clients instead:

“Now it’s EASY for me to consistently create remarkable content”

Remember how Nick struggled with creating remarkable content?

Well, over the past few months, he:

  • Successfully published his first 13,000+ word Ultimate Guide
  • Wrote 3 Huffington Post articles that were between 1,500-2,000 words long
  • Is 6,000+ words into writing his second Ultimate Guide

Nick’s new Huffington Post articles

“Now I’m confident from start to finish what creating remarkable content looks like. One of the biggest confidence markers is that I wrote my Ultimate Guide in the time frame of the course. Now I know that writing a new blog post won’t last for 6 months or 10 months.

I’ve written 3 pieces for Huffington Post in the last month. I’m building a digital footprint and writing regularly. I reached out to a few gyms, wrote about them in Huffington Post, which allowed me to connect with the local gyms, they’re sending me contacts, and creating buzz for me.

I’ve had the opportunity to post on Huffington Post since September, but never did it. Now I’m creating 2k word rigorous blog posts ON THE SIDE, and it’s not a big deal to do it.”

“I’m coming from a position of power, not force”

“I’m increasingly confident about building my business with power, not force. I’m not saying hurry the fuck on my list and i’ll take your money like a lot of people in my industry do. You want to join my list because we have a similar mindset, and I’ll show you a quality approach to digital marketing for your business.

In the marketing space there is an abundance of join now, buy now. For me, less is more. I know there’s people out there that are looking for solid information, without being sold to like crazy. I want to help those people.”

Nick’s future: from $3,000 online courses to becoming a Forbes contributor

“I eventually want to create a high end group program, with a live call approach like in Ultimate Guide System, with a community for a period of time, where I work together with fitness business owners on their marketing. I know that to have a 6-month semi-personalized experience at $3,000 is a steal for them.

I also want to become a Forbes contributor that talks about the intersection of fitness and capitalism. A lot of people are tapped into how people want to feel and look. It’s a multi billion dollar business. There’s a business conversation to be had around that, and also exercising together, working out together, talking about community, and the transformation that comes with it.

Fitness is leadership, needs to be talked about, and in a platform like Forbes, people will take it seriously. Now I’m working on building my digital footprint to be able to get there.

Now I’m more savvy than before. I want to get media attention about my work, not about me. I don’t want to be quoted in Time, I want to write an article for Time. I don’t want to be mentioned in media to put a logo on my site. I want to write a killer guest post that people will actually find valuable.”

3 Changes that Nick made to his online business with Ultimate Guide System

Let’s talk about some things that worked really well for Nick, that you too can use to grow your own online business.

1. He gets feedback on his writing early

“One of the big things I learned from Ultimate Guide System is to get feedback on my work early. It’s so powerful.
In the course I asked for feedback on everything. My title, my table of contents, my writing. Even when it wasn’t great yet. It helped me get things right and move forward.

Now I always ask for feedback if I’m not behaving the way I want to behave. I know that if I wrote just 500 words in 3 days that some feels off, and I need to go talk to someone about it to figure out what’s going on.”

This is a great habit of high performing entrepreneurs. They get feedback on their writing earlier rather than later, which helps them move forward whenever they see they might be getting stuck, and keep the momentum going.

2. He writes daily (for the last 70+ days)

“When I started Ultimate Guide System I did this thing where I would write 1,000 words/day each day to finish my guide on time. I streamed it on Facebook Live from a coffee shop every morning.

I’m still doing it to this day, for 70 days, and I’m going to do it for a year. I have this Facebook page where I go live every day. This is where the rigor comes in. I do it every day. I’m doing this, I’m here. Even if I feel like shit and I’m on my couch, I’ll write for at least 15 minutes.”

“When I do it for a year, I’m going to document my experience and share it, and how it changed my business. I already know there’ll be 50 ways in which I could talk about it. How my attitude changed. What changed in my business.

And I know I’ll be able to create more remarkable content and Ultimate Guides consistently this way.”

You don’t have to write for a year, write 1,000 words/day or stream yourself to the world like Nick – but there’s a lesson to be learned here.

If you commit to writing every single day (at least during the week) before you go to work, even if you write just a little bit, writing can become a habit, and creating remarkable content consistently gets easier.

The more uninterrupted time you block off for writing, the more writing you’ll get done.

3. He committed to attending every call and completing the course on time

“When I joined Ultimate Guide System I said to myself I would come to every call and make sure I finish my guide on time. I made it to all but one call. I asked for feedback whenever I could. And I finished the course on time. It took a lot of time, and more than just 3 hours a week, but Primoz told me that right off the bat when I asked him how long it would take. So I was ready.

I loved the live format of the course. I feel like it’s really the best structure out there, to have a lot of concentrated work in the beginning and then support for a long period of time. There’s just SO much value in having the opportunity to work with someone live. But you have to do the work. You have to come to calls, ask questions in slack, get feedback and move forward. And if you do that, it just works.”

This is something that I noticed with my students. The more calls they attended / watched, and the more active they were in the Slack (our chat community), the more they got out of the course and the faster they wrote their guides.

If you really dedicate the time to go through the course as planned, and use the community and all resources available to help you out, you WILL have an Ultimate Guide written by the end of it.

Writing an Ultimate Guide on your own is hard unless you’re the type of person that can write 10,000 words like nothing by themselves, and having a community to support you and to turn to for help is a big piece of consistently creating incredible content.

Here’s what Nick said about Ultimate Guide System:

“Ultimate Guide System was the BEST online course I’ve ever been in. I feel like a schmuck for stealing from Primoz.”

“I’ve learned so many things in Ultimate Guide System. How to methodically define and validate a piece of content before you start writing. I’ve written things that didn’t go anywhere because I missed that step in the past. Now I’m more clear than ever that the first step is the most important.

I now have really strong tools that I can use and leverage to write really remarkable content. It’s getting harder and harder to do it as more people come into the space, but I’m confident I can stand out from them and continue to grow my business.

It was cool to have a list of places in the course where people historically got stuck, so I could pay attention to it and avoid it. Primoz always told us “this is where my 1on1 clients got stuck, this is what might happen, this is how you avoid it”. He was always keeping an eye out for us.

It was great to have a community of 30+ people, writing their guides, each in a slightly different way. Some of them spent more time designing these gorgeous guides. Others like me just wanted to keep moving. Now I know that there’s no one way to create remarkable content, you need to find your own way. This course was really different than any other course out there.

It’s a joke, it’s so cheap. Compared to other things I spent this kind of money on, I feel like a schmuck for being in this course. I got exactly what I wanted out of the course. My guide wasn’t even published and I already made back my investment. And I know that this is just the beginning for me.”

I hope you’ve enjoyed Nick’s story, and I have more stories of our students coming your way in the future, plus exclusive resources that will make writing your first Ultimate Guide easier than ever before.

CASE STUDY: How this community management expert DOUBLED her email list (and started establishing herself as THE expert in her industry)

By Primoz Bozic 2 Comments

Do you ever feel like…

  • you’re great at what you do
  • that you have the skills and knowledge that can help thousands of people
  • the world NEEDS to hear about what you have to say

…but nobody knows who you are, what you do, and how you can help them?

That’s exactly how Ultimate Guide System graduate Diana felt just 3 months ago.

Diana Tower, “The Community Ninja”

Diana was one of my co-workers at Ramit Sethi’s Accelerator program, where she managed the Accelerator community.

She was always doing a kick ass job, she helped us build an incredible community, and she was literally living and breathing online communities.

She read books about them. She took online courses about them. She spent every second of every day thinking about how to make the Accelerator community better.

While she loves her work in Accelerator, she always wanted to have a side business of her own.

She played around with different business ideas over the past few years, but none of them really clicked with her – until she found the one that did late last year.

She realized just how good she became at creating profitable online communities over the last year, and wanted to help other people create them too.

At first, she was really excited about her idea. She started doing research around it, having conversations with potential clients, and started thinking about building an email list.

She planned out what her business would look like.

She did this for months, but her business wasn’t really going anywhere.

The problem was that nobody outside of Accelerator knew who she was and what she did. She didn’t have any way of SHOWING people that she knew what she was talking about.

She knew she was great at what she did, but didn’t really know how to show and prove to the world that she’s the go-to expert that everyone should talk to and work with.

She didn’t want to spend years writing blog posts, she didn’t have the time to send out tens and tens of guest post pitches, and she felt like she wasn’t really moving anywhere.

She also didn’t want to be one of those people who worked on their business all day long and sacrifice her family to do it. She wanted to have a great side business AND have plenty of time for her husband and her son.

She didn’t want to do 10 things to get her business off the ground. She wanted ONE thing that works.

That’s when she joined the Ultimate Guide System.

Here’s what she said immediately after she joined:

She was ready to create her first Ultimate Guide that would put her on the map as an expert in her niche, help her grow her email list and get the first few paying clients.

Over the next few months, she worked hard to create and launch her first Ultimate Guide:

The Ultimate Guide to Building a Profitable Online Community From Scratch

As soon as she published her guide, everything changed. People loved her guide, read it and shared it

“I published my guide around midnight, shared it on Facebook, and went to sleep. Next morning, 6 people already shared my guide and a lot of my friends were reading the guide and congratulating me on it. It was great!”

A lot of people raved about how awesome her guide is and opted into her email list:

Many of them shared her guide with their friends:

And even top influencers like Selena Soo shared it with their audiences:

She even got an opportunity to talk to a top influencer in her niche about improving their online community

“This wasn’t all though. As I was typing out an email to an influencer that I featured in the guide, I was shocked to receive an email from them. They reached out to ME!”

Here’s what the email said:

“Congrats on your Ultimate Guide! It’s truly phenomenal and really showcases you as the incredible expert that you are. =)

On a related note, I was wondering if you might be available for a call with me and a team member.

We are trying to figure some things out with our course communities, and would so greatly value your input on a few key decisions we’re trying to make.”

“As I got this email, I ran to my husband and I was so excited that I was freaking out! At first he thought that there was something wrong, but it wasn’t. I was just that excited that someone who I admired wanted to talk to me about their online community!”

After publishing her Ultimate Guide, her email list started to grow

Since she published her guide in the end of June, Diana’s email list has been steadily growing:

Her new readers quickly became her raving fans

Her readers have been absolutely devouring her guide, some of them even while eating crepes:

She received emails like this from her readers explaining how much they loved her guide:

As well as with the favorite takeaways from her guide:

These are the kind of people that not only come and check out your website. These are the people that will buy your online courses and work with you in the future.

3 months later: Diana got from 130 to 303 email subscribers and got her first consulting client!

It’s been a few months since I wrote this post, so I asked Diana to share an update with me of where she’s at in her business now.

Here’s what she told me.

Since she’s published her first Ultimate Guide, her email list has been steadily growing (from 130 to over 303 email subscribers):

She’s now got her first consulting client (that reached out to her and asked her to hire her):

Plus, she’s getting referrals to more paying clients!

And the best part? She just recently published her second Ultimate Guide (about engaging your community members):

And I know this guide will do wonders for her business.

Diana’s big transformation: How she feels after publishing her first Ultimate Guide

Diana didn’t just write an Ultimate Guide and get some email subscribers with it. Now she feels completely different and runs her business with a brand new approach and attitude.

She knows that the Ultimate Guide was just the beginning of her online business success. It was a stepping stone for bigger things to come.

Here’s what Diana said about how she feels after writing and publishing her guide:

“I don’t just think I’m an expert… I FEEL and BELIEVE that I’m one.”

“Before I wrote my guide, even though I worked with Ramit Sethi, that wasn’t enough for me to say I’m an expert.I didn’t have anything to show, to prove it.

Writing an Ultimate Guide changed me. It changed the perception of myself. Now I BELIEVE that I’m an expert. I see that people are reaching out to me to work with me.

Now that I get emails from my readers that love my guide, I see that I’m ACTUALLY helping people. It’s not just in my head any more.

Now I no longer feel like I’m good at this but nobody really cares about it. I know and feel like what I do is actually valuable.”

“Writing a 5,000 word article feels like nothing for me now.”

“Before I wrote my guide, I constantly felt like I had to prove myself. Like I was fighting an uphill battle. Everything felt difficult, and not that fun.

Writing an Ultimate Guide was hard in the sense that it was 3 months of writing, but it was also fun and interesting. I learned how to find out what people really want, give them all the information they need, and go to town on it. It makes everything so much easier.

Whatever I do now feels so much easier. I could create another guide. Writing a 5,000 word article feels like nothing. I know how to do it. I know how to write a great guest post. All of my writing feels so much better, even in my every day social media posts. Everything feels better and easier.”

“Now I finally believe I can create and sell a $1,000 online course”

“3 months ago I wasn’t nearly in the same situation in which I was right now. I had doubts that anything would really happen out of my business idea. I knew I was going to do something eventually, but I didn’t feel like these huge things that would happen would be right here.

I wasn’t dreaming big. I thought maybe I could get a few clients. Maybe I could build a $200 course one day. I had really small and conservative dreams. I never thought about helping people who are really influential because I didn’t feel like I was good enough and these people felt so out of reach. I wasn’t sure if I could help them.

Now I know I can get 3 highly influential clients, and by helping them I’ll help them impact thousands of people. I like the idea of a $1,000 product that will help people significantly. I feel like I can help ANYONE now. Any entrepreneur that has an online community, no matter how large their business is. I know I could help them with at least a part of their community.”

So how did she do it? How did she write the Ultimate Guide that helped her go from feeling like nobody really cares about her business to becoming a go-to expert in her niche?

3 changes that Diana made to running her online business that helped her become an overnight success

Diana was one of the first Ultimate Guide System students to publish her Ultimate Guide. And while it was a lot of work, I never stopped believing that she would publish her guide. And she did.

There’s 3 specific things that helped Diana write a 21,000+ word Ultimate Guide over 3 months and become an overnight success.

1. She STOPPED doing everything else to focus her Ultimate Guide

First, she stopped doing everything that she was doing in her business to just focus on writing her Ultimate Guide. This helped her create the mental space and time to do the research, create her table of contents, write and publish her guide.

She was no longer worrying about all of the other things she “should” be doing like guest posting or finding potential clients because she knew that publishing her guide would make that so much easier.

This also allowed her to find the time and energy for her family and friends and take weekends and afternoons of, so she wouldn’t burn herself out.

2. She CREATED something she’s proud of, that people noticed

“I used to spend a lot of time just planning, researching, and not DOING anything. This was the first thing that I publicly released for this business idea. I created something, put it on the internet, and got a great response.

People actually noticed and appreciated it. They read it, commented on it, and shared it. This wasn’t just something in my head any more. It was real, it was out there, and it gave me permission to dream bigger.”

Putting all of her ideas on paper, creating something incredible and putting it into the world allowed people to actually SEE how awesome she is, and start thinking about working with her. If she just kept doing the research and planning, this would never happen.

If you want to establish yourself as the expert in your niche, you need to put something incredible out there that gets people’s attention – and an Ultimate Guide is the perfect way to do that.

3. She found a community of people just like her to support her along the way

In Ultimate Guide System, she found a community of people with the same goals with her who wanted to write incredible Ultimate Guides, and had big visions for their online businesses.

It was with their support that she was able to write and publish such an incredible guide from start to finish (and set up a brand new website in-between).

“I don’t think I would have ever written a 21,000 word guide on my own. I would get stuck in procrastinating it, getting it designed, and spend time on things that aren’t important.

As I wrote my Ultimate Guide, I could always rely on the Ultimate Guide System community to have my back. Whenever I got stuck, felt that one of my chapters sucked, I could just turn to the community to get their feedback and move forward.

The other students really helped me with every step of my guide. From creating the table of contents, designing my guide, to setting up my WordPress website. It wasn’t so overwhelming any more.

When I finished writing my guide, I started freaking out. I had a crazy resistance to publishing it. I thought to myself that this is a shitty guide, that nobody would read it, that I didn’t know what I’m talking about. Deep down I knew that’s not true, but that’s how I felt.

The community really helped me work through that, push through it and successfully publish my guide.”

Writing an Ultimate Guide is a big project, and a lot of people might never finish writing one or get stuck if they try to create one on their own.

That’s exactly why we have an incredibly supportive community and weekly calls in the Ultimate Guide System, so you can actually finish writing your amazing guide.

So what are Diana’s thoughts about Ultimate Guide System?

“Ultimate Guide System is like taking the red pill in the matrix”

“Joining Ultimate Guide System was a no brainer for me. As soon as I joined, I knew it was worth it.

I’ve now published my Ultimate Guide, people are asking me to work with them, I’m positioning myself as an expert, and I know I’ll get more email subscribers from it for life.

But it’s not just about writing an Ultimate Guide. By writing an Ultimate Guide, you are investing in yourself. And if you invest in anything, you should invest in yourself.

I know that my entire business is based on content. Not just one awesome Ultimate Guide, anything else I’ll create will be fucking amazing. I can’t go back to writing shitty and short “top 5 tips” type content.

It’s like the matrix where you take the red pill, you take the UGS pill. You can never go back.

Now I’m writing with my audience in mind. I’m no longer thinking that I’m “supposed to write 3 articles a week”. Now it’s like I’m going to write this article about this problem and it will be so awesome that everyone will read it. I know how to create really good content. It’s easy.”

CASE STUDY: How this weight loss expert gained 500 new email subscribers (and TRIPLED her email list) in 3 Days

By Primoz Bozic 10 Comments

Meet Leslie.

Leslie is the founder of Rice Lean and the author of the Asian-Inspired Ultimate Guide to Naturally Losing 30 Pounds.

Just 2 months ago, Leslie was sitting on 238 email subscribers. Not a bad start, but considering she’s been hustling and focusing on growing her email list for over 6 months, she knew that she could be doing better.

She was doing everything she was “supposed” to be doing – from guest posting to creating influencer roundup posts – and her email list barely budged. At most she got 50 email subscribers from a guest post that she spent weeks and weeks writing.

Nothing seemed to work as well as she thought it would, and she was frustrated that her hard work wasn’t paying off.

Fast forward to today – Leslie has TRIPLED her email list in just 3 days after she created her first Ultimate Guide. Not only does she now have 500+ NEW, highly engaged email subscribers, she also has 29 raving testimonials from her Ultimate Guide readers and people waiting in line for her to create her first online course.

Today, she’ll tell us ALL about how she did it in this post – and how you can too.

Leslie, take it away!

HOW I GAINED 500 EXCITED EMAIL SUBSCRIBERS IN 3 DAYS WITH MY FIRST ULTIMATE GUIDE

By Leslie Chen from Rice Lean

How are you doing with growing your list so far?

For me, it has been tough.

The idea of guest posting makes my stomach churn. And for most of the time, pitching felt like shooting in the dark.

Besides guest posting, I’ve also ventured in writing an influencer roundup post. After about 80 hours of hard work on researching, outreaching, and writing, all I got was crickets.

To really speed up my list-building progress, I decided to reach out to 10 influencers each week. But knowing the chance of getting a “yes” was slim, my motivation sank right before I wrote the emails.

So after about 6 months of work, I’ve only got 238 email subscribers.

The situation felt like a cold, hard deadlock. And if you ever asked me then, I’d tell you I’ve never believed that I could have my own story of getting 500 new email subscribers just within 3 days – UNTIL IT HAPPENED 3 DAYS AGO.

(This is the report of the above-mentioned Mailchimp list. 0 subscribers before 6/9, almost 500 after 6/12)

This mind-blowing experience almost felt surreal.

(If you don’t know what an Ultimate Guide is yet, here’s a 30-second explanation of it:

An Ultimate Guide is a comprehensive, remarkable, in-depth piece of content you create to solve a burning pain your audience / clients have. It’s the BEST piece of content on internet around the topic you write about.)

By showing me a highly implementable roadmap for how to write an Ultimate Guide, Primoz removed the mental barrier I’ve had against list-building for months. And I knew by doing what Primoz recommended, I would easily get my first 1000-2000 subscribers particularly because of a few reasons:

  1. Many experts including Neil Patel believe long, remarkable content works extremely well for driving organic traffic.
  2. People have already achieved sizeable list-building success with Primoz’s Ultimate Guide Strategy. Some even got featured on premium media, such as Selena Soo on Business Insider and Peter Nguyen on HypeBeast.
  3. Primoz used his first Ultimate Guide to create his first business as recounted by this Business Insider article. He himself is a living proof of this strategy he proudly shared.
  4. Knowing Primoz and his work ethics, I knew he wouldn’t let his audience down by offering something that wasn’t significantly meaningful.

With all the newly sparkled excitement, I started working on my Asian-Inspired Ultimate Guide to Naturally Losing 30 Pounds right away.

It’s an Ultimate Guide which teaches women the little-know secrets that Asian people use to effortlessly stay in shape without dieting, counting calories, banning carbs, or being a slave to the treadmill. It’s inspired by my own experience of losing 50 pounds in 10 months.

I knew this piece of content, once published, would bring me a continuous stream of traffic and email subscribers.

What I didn’t expect was to gain 500 new email subscribers BEFORE I released it.

How did that happen?

The secret was a “beta-reading” campaign, which I launched simply by making a post in a Facebook group to tell people about this Ultimate Guide, asking if they’d want to be a beta reader.

Within a few hours after that post was made, hundreds of enthusiastic readers have already subscribed to my email list, screaming “HELL YES!”

Sounds simple, but nothing was random.

Let me show you exactly how I:

  • Found the right Facebook group that helped me get 500 enthusiastic email subscribers
  • Wrote a non-spammy Facebook post that offered the community members the beta reading opportunity
  • Collected 29 persuasive testimonials from my Ultimate Guide readers

I’ll also show you how you can implement ALL of my techniques to grow your own online business.

1. How I’ve found the RIGHT Facebook group that helped me get 500 enthusiastic email subscribers

Taking a step back, beta-reading wasn’t something that Primoz recommended to me. But realizing how big of an undertaking creating an Ultimate Guide was, I decided to make the most of every step of the way even if that might require me to wander afar a little bit.

Interestingly for me, list-building wasn’t the goal to start with when I launched the beta-reading exercise. Instead, I was hoping for getting the following 2 from the experience:

  1. Get readers’ feedback for final editorial changes so that the released final version would be truly remarkable.
  2. Get reader testimonials so that I could use them to drive my business in multiple ways.

And if you remember I mentioned earlier that I posted about this beta-reading opportunity in a Facebook group, you’d probably wonder how I found the group that could delivered such a great result for me.

It was a strategic win, following a 3-step method below:

Step 1. Define your audience – from demographic, lifestyle, needs, to mindset

Primoz, when he was a business coach at Ramit Sethi’s Zero To Launch, once coached me on doing in-depth market research to find who my audience really were.

My business is about Asian-inspired food and nutrition wisdom for natural weight loss, and based on my research, I listed down a few loose parameters around my audience’s profile:

  • Demographic: North American women in 20s and 30s.
  • Lifestyle: single / married, working professional / entrepreneur, with or without kids, dieting, counting calories, limiting (fearing) carbs, cooking frequently.
  • Needs: losing 20-50 lbs; gaining confidence, inner-freedom, long-term health, positive social images, better relationship life, career success, being a better mother.
  • Mindset: ambitious, culturally open-minded, sick and tired of self-deprivation.

If you look at these parameters, most of them indicate a strong drive towards personal improvement, career development, and mental, physical well-being. This tells me what my audience cares about.

But what about weight loss communities in particular?

Since I’ve already found out that people who are big believers in FAD diets don’t usually have the fitting mindset for what I do, I excluded most of the online weight loss communities from my list because FAD is what they are focused on.

At this moment, knowing who exactly my audience were and what truly needed, I was ready to find where they were.

If you want to find out the best places to connect with your audience, start by listing key parameters around their demographic, lifestyle, needs, and mindset, using the same framework above.

Step 2. Create a list of high-quality sources of traction

“Source of traction” refers to the place you can gain traction from, it can be online or offline – online communities, blogs, magazines, webinars, podcasts, offline workshops, networking events etc.

In my case for this Ultimate Guide, the source of traction I used was a Facebook group which I’ve done research in and posted my beta-reading request.

Speaking of Facebook groups, they can be an overhead because every time when you search for a common keyword, hundreds of groups show up. You don’t know which ones are for you, and vetting each one of them takes too much time.

So after learning exactly what types of groups I should pay attention to in Step 1, I used a hack to quickly find out the groups which were worth investing time in.

It’s very simple: just go to the profile of other entrepreneurs who share the similar audience group with you, and check out which groups they are in.

The following image shows you where you can find that information.

Ideally, this entrepreneur you are looking at is a few steps ahead of you in their business.

In my case as an example, I checked out my friend Camille Virginia’s Facebook group list as a reference for myself.

Camille is the girl behind MasterOfflineDating.com – a relationship coaching site which teaches women authentic, proven skills to find love and romance in the real, offline world. Since she already runs a successful brand, I was confident that her sources must be of premium quality.

This simple hack enabled me to quickly amass a list of 20+ highly engaging Facebook groups within just 10 minutes.

And all I needed to do next was to find out which one works the best for me.

Step 3. Run simple and meaningful tests.

As you can see, Camille’s audience and mine have a significant overlap in-between because many women who struggle to find love simultaneously desire a sexy, lean body.

And since her market is mostly professional women, another parameter that I have for my market is automatically covered.

But how do I know if women in these groups she follows meet my other parameters? After all, being culturally open-minded is the key considering the theme of the business I’m running.

To find out, I ran a test by asking the following questions in these groups:

“Do you like Asian food, and do you feel you might be a little bit healthier if you lived in Asia?”

Close to 200 people responded, with over 90% saying “of course!”

This was the green light pass that showed me this Facebook group would work for me.

But just having a list of working Facebook groups wasn’t enough.

As an entrepreneur, your resources are limited, and finding out the HIGHEST performing source of traction for the time being gives you the shortest path to your goal because this enables you to maximize your results by focusing your time and resources on activities with the highest ROI.

This realization was inspired by my mentor Marc Aarons. Marc is the guy behind 80/20 Solutions which helps companies grow into 7 to 8 figures, often time by increasing their conversion by 500% through optimizing business strategy, content strategy and copywriting.

To really find my ultimate, primal source of traction, I posted the question mentioned above in all 20+ Facebook groups I’ve collected.

To my surprise, some groups which I thought would be high-potential groups (such as food-related groups) did not turn out to be high-potential at all. Others which I didn’t prioritize really surprised me with blooming results.

When you are running this test, there are two numbers that you can use as an indicator of effectiveness for each Facebook group:

  1. The number of positive responses to your post.
  2. The response rate among people who have seen this post.

Since I had no clue if “seen” was equivalent to “read” in the book of Facebook algorithm, I chose #1 just to be safe.

After 2 days of data collection, I found my top Facebook group and went with that one.

Here’s the screenshot of an excel tracker I used – nothing complicated, just two columns:

2. How I wrote a non-spammy Facebook post with my beta-reading opportunity

By now, I already knew which is the Facebook group I should go to in order to get the maximized conversion for my beta-reading campaign. So I created the post where I asked people if they wanted to be a part of my beta reading group.

I was totally blown away with 106 people enthusiastically saying “YES!” in the very first hour, handing me their email addresses without a second of hesitation.

It was a moment of ecstasy!

More importantly, even though I made it very clear on the post that beta-reading was free, people kept telling me that they’d be happy to be a paying customer!

Below is what they told me exactly:

Even after the beta-reading sign-up window has closed, I still kept receiving requests from highly enthusiastic readers:

This meant massive validation for my business idea, and it made me mentally alive again.

So what was leading to all these?

Besides finding the primal source of traction as I just showed you, it mattered infinitely to write a compelling copy.

And to me, it wasn’t a home run to start with.

The first version of my post, while being nicely written, only got me 16 lukewarm “okay”, with a neutral, I-can-spare-some-time-to-help-you tone.

You can take a look at the copy here:

Thankfully, I only used this copy as a test by dropping it into a working Facebook group within my Top 5 list, leaving the highest-performing Facebook group for the ultimate winning copy, which was yet to be made.

Realizing that copy would not work, I took it off and rewrote it with a completely different approach.

This time, I wanted to make it highly personal and deeply relatable to my audience by following the 2 principles below:

1. It’s not about taking, but giving and helping.

Felicia Spahr, my business coach at Ramit Sethi’s Accelerator program, wrote in her book that “people want to hear what you have to say if you’ve created something that will help them.” After analyzing the result, I realized neglecting this rule was the biggest mistake I made in that copy.

Here’s why: my entire Ultimate Guide was about over-delivering value to solve my audience’ problem, but the post I made didn’t really show how it would help them. Instead, the post sounded more like a request for an transactional exchange – free time for free reading. This instantly downgraded my value proposition and turned off people’s interest.

2. It’s not about talking, but showing.

One question I asked myself was: what do my audience desperately want at this moment?

After re-reading all the frustration and pains they’ve revealed in their posts and comments, I realized what they desperately needed was to be assured that they could reach their goal without experiencing another failure.

This is exactly what my Ultimate Guide could give them, and to highlight that for them, I needed to take them into the moments and let them feel the feelings of both their deepest vulnerability and the most wanted success.

Soon the new copy was ready:

It turned 16 lukewarm “okay” into 106 resounding “YES!” in the very first hour after I posted it.

And within 72 hours, I got 500 passionate email subscribers.

Now having read this copy, you might wonder why I didn’t include a landing page URL in the post.

This is because it might feel spammy to the audience, which was the very last thing I wanted to happen. Once the trust is broken, nothing can be done.

Instead I just asked the people that were interested to comment or private message me.

The result was that I had to manually create entries for everyone who wanted to join, switch back and forth on Facebook messenger windows to find their information, and go through everything again and again to make sure the names and email addresses were documented correctly.

It was 5+ hours of work, and every minute of sweating was well worth it.

3. How I collected 29 passionate, persuasive testimonials from my Ultimate Guide readers

As I mentioned earlier, collecting testimonials was really the main goal of running beta-reading. To achieve that, making this experience truly valuable for the readers meant everything.

To create an interesting, inspirational, and transformative experience for them, I converted the Ultimate Guide into an email course series.

As Primoz advised, I also sent them the full PDF version so that they could have the flexibility to read it in one sitting.

Besides receiving a substantial lesson and guided action items from me each day, my readers were invited to email me for any questions they might have.

This really excited the readers because with a guided path of transformation designed for them, they were able to see in their own eyes the immediate changes on their daily habits, mindset, and scale number during the 17 days of beta-reading experience.

Also, an Ultimate Guide would bring you highly engaging readers because people who want to read the 100+ pages you created are usually committed, high-potential customers to start with.

This explains why 46% of my beta-readers have been following every single email I’ve sent to them, which is about 250% higher than the industry benchmark:

So now I’ve created some happy readers. How do I get them to provide me high-quality testimonials which I can use to grow my business?

Selena Soo gave me the answer.

In her INFLUENCE program, she shared this technique of using a few simple questions to guide your clients or audience in this process. She also shared some word-for-word scripts for requesting testimonials, which I found very helpful for getting me what I needed.

Within 24 hours upon my request, I received 29 strong, passionate, and persuasive responses from the readers:

This again blew me away.

The biggest benefit I got out of creating my Ultimate Guide

So far, this Ultimate Guide experience has truly been an eye-opener for me. However, getting 500 new subscribers in 3 days, even though enormously gratifying, wasn’t the biggest win for me.

What is it then?

Two things.

  1. Validation – seeing this business which I’ve put my heart and soul in actually has a future made me feel mentally alive!
  2. Clarity – through Ultimate Guide beta-reading, I’ve gained invaluable insights directly from my potential buyers, which could help me strategize a winning product in the near future.

At this moment, I can finally take an afternoon off, sitting in my backyard, sipping the homemade mojito while visualizing a blooming business that is entering my life.

And I’m finally close to telling everyone this is a “business”, not a “side hustle.”

For the first time in a long time, I stopped feeling frazzled.

And I know something very promising is coming.

What’s next?

Now, what are my next steps for my Ultimate Guide strategy?

There are 2 things I’m currently working on:

  1. I’m making the final editorial changes to the content based on the beta-readers’ feedback. Primoz’s new article about 7 Mistakes to Avoid While Writing Your Ultimate Guide has given me some new ideas which I have to incorporate.
  2. I’m brewing more interests, traction, and momentum before the release of my Ultimate Guide by letting more people know about it. This includes forum posting, guest blogging, and influencer outreaching.

Beyond these immediate to-dos, I want to write a cookbook which goes hand-in-hand with this Ultimate Guide.

Many of my readers have demanded it, and it could be a great idea for my first information product.

Perhaps I’ll see it in Barnes & Noble some day.

Now I know I have a lot of great ideas for the future and this is just the beginning.

And to think of it, none of these would have been close in sight before I wrote the Ultimate Guide 2 months ago.

So what are you waiting for? Start working on your first Ultimate Guide!

CASE STUDY: How a Personal Stylist Doubled His Traffic by Publishing Just One Post a Month

By Primoz Bozic 5 Comments

Do you ever feel like…

  • Your blog posts aren’t getting enough traffic?
  • You’re spending hours and hours on your business each week and it doesn’t take off?
  • It’s sometimes easier to do nothing than to try to do everything that you “should” be doing do grow your online business?

If you answered YES to at least one of those questions, then I have good news for you.

My friend Peter Nguyen from Essential Man used to struggle with all of that.

He was writing 3-4 blog posts each month. He was juggling that with 1-on-1 client work, managing his Facebook group of paying clients, and living a life.

Yet his business wasn’t growing nearly as fast as he would’ve wanted to. He was putting in a ton of work, and not reaping the benefits of it…

…until he started writing LESS posts each month. In fact, he now writes just ONE blog post a month.

And guess what?

By writing posts like:

  • The Ultimate Guide to Buying a Leather Jacket
  • The Ultimate Guide to Summer Style
  • The Essential Fall Style Guide

His monthly traffic DOUBLED.

His email list grew to thousands of email subscribers.

He brought in tens of thousands of revenue with his business.

And today I’m SO excited, because he’s going to share EXACTLY how he did it with you guys, in this very post :).

He’ll share the high level strategy, specific tactics and systems he used, as well as reveal the numbers of how publishing LESS helped him grow his online business.

Peter, take it away!

HOW I DOUBLED MY TRAFFIC WRITING JUST 1 POST A MONTH

By Peter Nguyen from Essential Man

At the end of 2016 my personal styling business was making more money in a month than it did the entire previous year.

I had a steady stream of private clients, and thousands of daily readers.

So what was the problem?

Like many online entrepreneurs, I’m a one man show.

Between working with my high-end 1-on-1 clients, managing the Facebook group for my course students, and tackling outside goals like my fitness, I couldn’t continue churning out 2-4 posts and emails a week my readers were accustomed to.

I was going crazy.

I felt overwhelmed.

It got to a point where it was easier to do nothing than try to juggle it all.

I started to go weeks without a single new post or email.

I knew something had to change.

THIS WASN’T THE BUSINESS I WANTED

I did what any smart business owner would do: I sat down, poured myself some tequila, and took a hard look at my business.

Here’s what I found:

1. What I was doing wasn’t sustainable.

I had two options when it came to my current business: cut back on the work I was doing, or hire someone to take some of the workload off of me.

Despite my growth, I still wasn’t at a point where I could hire someone. If I continued on the same path, it was inevitable that I was going to get burned out and end up hating my job.

2. The bigger the post, the bigger the impact.

When I looked at the numbers, shorter, often rushed posts had a lot less impact on traffic and subscribers (and ultimately sales).

According to my analytics, the top 10 posts on my site consisted entirely of long, in depth posts. And posts with opt-in bonuses garnered 4x more opt-ins than shorter posts.

Don’t just take my word for it, two of the biggest names in SEO, Neil Patel and Brian Dean have both done experiments that show longer form content is the way to go if you want to grow your traffic and authority.

LESS WORK BUT GREATER IMPACT

There was a third realization I came to: That it was ultimately MY business, and I could run it however I wanted!

I know a ton of great sites in my niche that churn out daily blog posts, tweets, and instagrams, making the bulk of their revenue va advertisers and affiliates.

That wasn’t the business I wanted.

I wanted a business that could continue to grow and earn revenue even if I decided to take a few weeks off for a vacation.

I didn’t want more work, I wanted more impact.

So here’s what I decided: In Nov 2016, I decided to switch exclusively to writing long form, in-depth content, limiting myself to 1-2 posts a month.

The results?

The Essential Man analytics from 2016-2017

Within 2 months, my traffic and subscribers nearly doubled, and have consistently been increasing month after month!

Here were the posts from Jan – June 2017.
(Note: Feb and June are the only months with 2 posts)

January:
A Beginner’s Guide: 16 Essential Style Tips For Guys Who Want to Dress Better

February:

Post 2: How to Create a Minimalist Wardrobe

March:

April:

May:
Friends of The Essential Man: Meet Megan of Style Girlfriend

June:
Post 1: How to Declutter Your Closet in Less Than an Hour
Post 2: The Essential Summer Style Guide For Men

Has hell frozen over? A nice comment on Reddit!

I started seeing more shares, more comments, more subscriptions, and yes, more sales.

Payments from 1-on-1 clients

Stripe payments from course launches. Notice the small peaks at the end of 2016 vs the peaks in 2017

Between Jan and June 2017, my email list size doubled, giving me more potential customers to pitch my course and services to. I made more revenue in the first 3 months of 2017 than all of 2016.

HOW I WRITE 1-2 HUGE, ULTIMATE POSTS EACH MONTH

For many writers, churning out 3k+ monsters can be a huge undertaking, often taking months.

I’m confident anyone can write high quality post in half the time (or faster).

Today, I’m going to share how you can write amazing, high quality, long form ultimate content as fast a week. I’ll also be sharing how you can use your new long-form posts to consistently grow your traffic, subscribers, and sales completely automatically.

STEP #1: MAKE WRITING EASIER BY CRAFTING A SYSTEM FOR CREATING CONTENT

It’s Sunday morning.

You head over to your local Starbucks, laptop in hand.

You order your usual latte, open up Google docs, and start a new document.

You start writing the intro to your post due tomorrow and hate it. You smash that delete it and start over.

This dance continues for what seems like hours, and now you start freaking out.

Sound familiar?

You’re not alone.

This is how I used to tackle writing in the early days of The Essential Man.

It was a frustrating rollercoaster.

On some days I’d feel like a genius when posts just flowed out of me after a couple sips of coffee.

On most days I’d feel like the world was going to end when I’d notice it was 7pm and I didn’t have anything ready to post the next day.

Thankfully I now take a methodical, systematic approach to writing. It’s not only allowed me to churn out great posts consistently, I don’t dread writing anymore, actually ENJOY and look forward to it!

Here’s the three part system I use:

PART 1: HAVE AN INFINITE SUPPLY OF POST IDEAS BY CREATING A “MASTER BRAINSTORM DOC”

As an entrepreneur, I’m sure I’m not alone when I talk about how my mind is constantly churning out “great” ideas.

I’m always thinking of a new post I could write, a new person I could reach out to, a new program I can offer. Old ideas are always getting pushed out by new ones.

Couple that with the fact that I can barely remember everything I did yesterday, it’s easy to forget that one topic you thought would be a great post idea.

The solution is pretty simple: start writing your ideas down!

I’m not going to tell you you should sign up for Evernote, or try to implement some complex Spreadsheet system.

Keep it simple.

The best tool to record your ideas is the one that you’ll use most often.

I still carry this around to jot down ideas

When I started writing blog post ideas down, I used a pocket sized Moleskine and a pen simply because I found an unused one in my cabinet.

Now I have a master brainstorming doc on my Google Drive that I can access anywhere.

Sometimes when I want to jot something down fast I’ll open up my iphone Notepad, or even just email myself.

The lesson here is to constantly write down any idea that pops in your head that might be good to write about. That way when you go to sit down to write, you’re not wasting time hoping and praying for an idea to pop up. You can simply open up your brainstorm doc and pick something to write about.

PART 2: 1 DAY, 1 TASK: BREAK DOWN THE WRITING PROCESS TO WRITE FASTER

Constant task switching was a huge struggle for me when I was first starting out. Your brain isn’t equipped to juggle multiple tasks that require different types of thinking from each other.

If you’ve ever been interrupted during a writing session with a text or email, you know how hard it is to get back into that flow.

When I talk to other writers about what they find most challenging about writing, they often talk about how it takes them so long to write.

When I dug a little deeper, I noticed a lot of them were editing as they wrote, or even worse, doing research as they wrote.

They were constantly switching back and forth between different writing tasks, it’s no surprise their posts would take weeks, even months to write!

To minimize this, I break up the writing process, creating an efficient system for producing high quality content fast.

It’s pretty simple: 1 Day, 1 Task.

It looks something like this:

This is the exact 7-day writing schedule I’ve used for the last 6 months.

Now that I’m writing even bigger (5K+ words) content, I’ve expanded the calendar to give myself a bit more time to write.

Here’s what my current schedule looks like:

There’s no right or wrong amount of days you should give yourself for a specific task.

Some of you might write extremely fast drafts but need more days to edit.

Some of you might have an editor on staff you can just hand off drafts to.

As long as you remember to break down the process and not to do more than one task per day, you’ll find you’ll be producing better content faster.

Experiment to find your sweet spot.

PART 3: SPEND 2X THE TIME WRITING A SOLID OUTLINE

Outlines are the recipes of your epic content.

Think about the last time you cooked following a well written recipe.

You probably left thinking you were a master chef that could have her own cooking show!

I can tell you from experience from writing long form content exclusively these past 6 months, posts where I spent time fleshing out a solid outline were not only easier to write, but they were much more useful to the readers because I didn’t forget anything.

If you want to write better and faster posts, spend 2x more time on crafting great outlines.

STEP #2: OPTIMIZE YOUR CONTENT FOR EVERGREEN TRAFFIC

Now that you have your overall game plan for creating amazing long form content, it’s time to fine tune your work so you’re consistently getting better traffic, more subscribers, and climb that Google rank.

#1: BE THOROUGH

Ultimate guides and epic posts aren’t a time to skimp over important details.

While Google is generally secretive about how certain posts become top search results, one thing is clear: content that is useful is content that readers engage with and share, and content that’s shared is content that ranks.

My first ultimate guide guest post beat out GQ on Google!

Take, for example, my Ultimate Guide to Buying a Leather Jacket. This was my FIRST ever ultimate post, and I didn’t hold back.

It’s a 3.6K word post that walks a guy through the steps of buying the perfect leather jacket. It covers everything from the different styles, pros and cons of different leathers, even how to tell the difference between a high quality leather jacket and a piece of junk like a pro.

And now if you search “How to buy a leather jacket” on Google, it’s a top result!

#2: DON’T USE DATES IN YOUR PERMALINKS

Keep permalinks clear, easy to remember, and date free

Readers will sometimes have a bias against old posts. Readers could be turned off by seeing that a post is 1-2 years old, automatically thinking the content isn’t relevant anymore. (Tim Ferriss recommends not having dates on your posts for this reason.)

I also don’t recommend you have a date in your URL permalinks, especially If you’re in a niche like me (fashion) that is heavily dependent on timing or trends.

This is also particularly useful if you’re updating old content to reshare. If you had a date in your permalink and update the date to bump it to the top, you could lose old backlinks. (More on bumping posts later)

There should be an option in your blog service backend on formatting your URL.

Here’s how to change it in WordPress, which is what I use.

Log into your WordPress and click on “Settings” then “Permalinks”

Choose “Post name”, click save.

#3: LINK TO OLDER POSTS IN YOUR NEW POSTS

Interlinking has a lot of SEO benefits that I won’t go too deep on in here. (If you want to read more, Neil Patel has an awesome guide on it.)

An even bigger benefit that isn’t discussed enough is that linking to your old content builds trust and credibility between you and the reader.

As they discover more of your amazing content, you become the go-to source in your niche. By interlinking, you make your amazing content easier for them to find.

That’s why I’m constantly referencing and linking to older, relevant posts, and why I’ve seen consistent traffic increase on old posts.

It also gives you more opportunities to convert them into future buyers by linking to older posts that might have opt-in bonuses.

A great example of a high converting interlink heavy post you can start on today: The “Start Here” beginners post.

This kills a ton of birds with one stone.

  1. New readers can find a step-by-step guide to get started with your material and not feel overwhelmed.
  2. You increase traffic and SEO authority on older posts.
  3. You increase your authority as an expert.
  4. You increase your chances of converting a new reader into a subscriber, which in turn makes them more likely to become a customer.

If you need an example, check out my Start Here/Beginner’s Guide Post for The Essential Man.

#4: ADD YOUR BEST CONTENT IN YOUR SIDEBAR

Similar to interlinking, make your best post easier to find by adding your best content in sidebars or on the menu.

This simple addition has increased traffic on older posts by at least 4x.

#5: SCHEDULE SOCIAL MEDIA TO AUTOMATICALLY SHARE YOUR POSTS

Social media can be a fulltime job.

Luckily, services like Buffer make it much easier to schedule and consistently share your content so it doesn’t get lost in noise.

I recommend blocking out one hour a week to schedule an entire week’s worth of shares between your newest post and any older post you want traffic on.

STEP #3: CREATE “NEW” POSTS 10x FASTER BY UPDATING OLD CONTENT

My biggest secret of all: I often refresh old content and share it “as new”.

Refreshing and resharing old content is a great way to not only put it in front of new readers who might have missed it the first time, but it also gives you an opportunity to make it relevant again.

If you have a niche like me where things are constantly changing, you might be left outdated information and broken links on an amazing post you spent weeks on.

For example, I often recommend specific items to buy in my posts. Thanks to the nature of fashion, my recommendations become irrelevant after a season. They also become useless if a certain item sells out after a few weeks.

Taking an hour or so every so often to update the links makes the post useful again.

That’s just one way to update a post, here are a few others:

1. Increase your credibility by changing your opinion on something

Nobody likes to admit they’re wrong, but changing your mind can actually be beneficial and increase your credibility.

Take, for example, Ramit Sethi in a email where he makes fun of his younger self’s bad advice and opinions.

2. Make a post more readable

No doubt the more you write, the worse your older post might be to you looking back.

This simple tweak of making it easier to read and understand can turn a C+ post into a A in less than a day.

Use a service like Hemmingway or Grammarly to improve readability or, if you’re at that level, shoot an old post to your editor to fix.

3. Add new information

Whether you forgot to include something, rushed through your old post, or learned something new, you can add more value by giving your readers new information not previously shared.

It’s important to make sure that anything new you add is useful and relevant, and that you’re not adding something for the sake of making the post bigger for big sake.

4. Create a better opt-in

Didn’t include an opt-in in an old post?

Opt-in no longer converting?

Take this opportunity to create a new opt-in bonus to grow your subscribers.

I also recommend adding a shareable thank you page to make your posts more viral.

One last tip: You can bump the post to the top of your blog feed by changing the post date (at least in WordPress). Simply go to edit your post and change the publish date to today’s date and it will be bumped to the top of your feed.

GET TACTICAL, NOT EMOTIONAL

If you find yourself overwhelmed, stressed, and dreading waking up to start work like I did at the end of last year, it’s a good sign you need to take a look at how you’re operating your business.

Implement this system for creating epic content smooth and fast, and take back your time and sanity.

Once you have your writing system in place, I highly recommend checking out Ultimate Guides to start creating epic content that gets you more traffic, more subscribers, and more sales.

How Top Experts, Companies and Entrepreneurs Grow Their Businesses With Ultimate Guides

By Primoz Bozic Leave a Comment

A few weeks ago, Ramit Sethi released his new e-book called “Your Move: The Underdog’s Guide to Building a Business.”

Since he published it, the book has become a huge success.

Tens of thousands of people have bought the book. It hit the #1 best seller in many categories on Amazon. It got hundreds of raving reviews:

It even hit the #1 place of non-fiction books on Wall Street Journal:

I’ve read the book an it’s phenomenal. It’s easily the best e-book you’ll ever find for $3.65 online. If you haven’t done so yet, make sure you pick up your copy!

So what do I love about the e-book most?

Surprisingly, it’s not that my story is mentioned in it (even though that’s REALLY cool).

What I love about it the most is that it’s not just an e-book… It’s an undercover Ultimate Guide that’s marketed as an e-book.

It’s not called an Ultimate Guide, but an “Underdog’s Guide”, but that’s ok – not all Ultimate Guides actually have “Ultimate Guide” in the name.

You have Ultimate Guides that are called “Beginner’s Guides”, “Essential Guides”, “Complete Guides”, “Advanced Guides”, “Parent’s Guides”, and so on and so on.

The name doesn’t matter as much as what an Ultimate Guide actually is – the most detailed piece of content on the internet on a specific topic (that usually comes with plenty of stories, examples, and a table of contents).

And that’s exactly what Ramit’s new e-book is. It’s by far the best, most comprehensive and detailed piece of content out there for underdogs who want to build a business.

It’s not a book as there’s no publisher or a physical copy. It also didn’t take Ramit years to create like his first book – it was completed in months instead.

Why did Ramit publish his e-book on Amazon instead of his blog?

It’s interesting that the guide was published on Amazon rather than on the website – and Ramit explained his decision in one of the emails to his readers.

He essentially said that he didn’t just want to rely on Google to drive more traffic to his website and that he wanted to get more readers through Amazon, which was an untapped market for him.

I think that at his stage of the business, with a huge audience that he’s already built, that absolutely makes sense. He can use the existing audience to get the 124 incredible reviews and propel the guide to the #1 spot on Amazon where it will stay for years to come. It also makes sense as he’s already getting a ton of traffic from Google and other sources.

Would I publish an Ultimate Guide on Amazon rather than on your own website when just starting out and don’t have a big audience?

Probably not, at least not exclusively. It’s unlikely you’d be able to replicate Ramit’s results when starting out.

Instead I would start with publishing it on your website, and THEN if your guide becomes a huge success you can think about putting it on Amazon as well, to create another stream of traffic to your website through it.

That’s actually something we’ll look into with some of our Ultimate Guide System students that have written 25,000+ world Ultimate Guides… As they are essentially small books already, and republishing them on Amazon might be a great way to spread the word about them.

That’s the beauty of creating an incredible piece of content like an Ultimate Guide.

Once you write a piece of content that’s 10x better than anything else out there on the topic you’re writing about, you can use it in many different ways to grow your online business:

  • You can publish it on your blog and bring more traffic to your website for years to come
  • You can use a PDF of it as a free gift for your email subscribers, and convert more of your new and existing readers into raving fans
  • You can use an Ultimate Guide to kick off your product launch, establish yourself as the go-to expert on the topic you’re talking about, add massive value to your existing readers and boost your launch revenues

Or, you can even republish it on Amazon, create an audiobook out of it… There’re endless options in which you can use an Ultimate Guide to grow your online business.

A lot of online business experts know how powerful Ultimate Guides are, which is why many of them create them.

For example, Ramit has written Ultimate Guides about social skills, starting an online business, finding a profitable business idea, creating remarkable content, personal finance and others:

And as he says himself, “this is hands-down the most popular content on his website”.

Ramit isn’t the only online business expert that understands the value of Ultimate Guides.

Selena Soo has written an Ultimate Guide to Meeting People at Events which she used to kick off her INFLUENCE product launch:

Her guide got featured in Business Insider (3 times!), Inc magazine, Huffington Post and I Will Teach You to be Rich which helped her reach hundreds of thousands of new readers and bring in thousands of high quality email subscribers.

Selena shared her whole story of:

  • Why and how she created her Ultimate Guide
  • How she used it to bring in thousands of high quality email subscribers
  • Why she things Ultimate Guides are one of the best ways to start an online business

In this interview we did together:

You can watch the whole interview here.

Another example of an expert using an Ultimate Guide to grow their online business is Bushra Azshar from The Persuasion Revolution.

Bushra rapidly built a 7-figure online business over the last few years, and recently created her Ultimate Guide to Persuasion:

She’s using her Ultimate Guide all over her website to capture more email subscribers (and blow them away once they sign up for it), and sell more of her Mass Persuasion Method program.

If you ever even remotely looked into SEO to grow your online business, you’ve probably heard about Neil Patel.

Neil is considered one of the top SEO experts out there (and he consistently gets well over 100,000 visits to his website), and that’s not an accident.

Neil has created his own library of 12 Ultimate Guides on his Quick Sprout blog that established him as the go-to expert on SEO and more or less everything related to it:

Whenever I want to look something up regarding SEO, his guides are the first place I look at. And whenever someone asks me about SEO, his guides are the first thing I point them to.

Neil was actually the person that made writing detailed guides popular back in 2014. In the past he wrote about why created 10+ Ultimate Guides and how he got 361,494+ visitors and 8,421 email opt-ins with one Ultimate Guide.

He also wrote this EPIC data-driven post about why 3,000+ word blog posts get more traffic than shorter ones. If you want to learn more about WHY Ultimate Guides rank really high on Google and take off, I’d definitely read that post.

Now I might not necessarily agree with everything that Neil shares about sharing Ultimate Guides. I don’t think you should blow $5k-$20k on a design of an Ultimate Guide when just starting out. I don’t think you should ask people to share your guides before you’ve built a solid relationship with them (and even then it might come off as needy).

I know that creating Ultimate Guides is about a lot more than just numbers and SEO, although that is a part of it (we talk more about how to create incredible Ultimate Guides in Ultimate Guide System that’s opening soon).

The point is – Ultimate Guides work. And they work REALLY well. How often do you see someone say that they got 361,494 visitors or 8,421 email subscribers from ONE post on their website? Pretty much never.

So far we’ve only talked about online business experts that create Ultimate Guides. But they aren’t the only people creating them and reaping the benefits of them.

Software companies use Ultimate Guides to sell more of their software.

Leadpages (one of the leading companies that offers landing pages whose software I personally use as well) recently wrote the Ultimate Guide to Landing Pages:

I absolutely love their guide and there’s many innovative techniques they used to create it that we break down in the Ultimate Guide System.

Their Ultimate Guide is ranking as the #1 result on Google for “Landing pages guide” and makes it to the first page of google for searches like “landing pages” or “how to create landing pages”:

In such a competitive field as landing pages, that’s pretty awesome. I’ve also heard that Leadpages is working on their next Ultimate Guide already, which just goes to show how valuable Ultimate Guides can be, even for software companies.

Another software company that uses Ultimate Guides to bring in more sales for their business is called Zapier. If you haven’t heard of it yet, Zapier helps you connect different apps (like gmail and Evernote) and automate your every day tasks to make your life a lot easier and save you a ton of time.

Zapier has written tens of different Ultimate guides, covering topics from using Google Sheets to Customer Support to eCommerce:

And of course, many of these rank as the #1 result on google for their topic:

What Zapier is doing here is super smart. They’re taking different audiences (like the customer support people) and different tools (like Google Sheets) that Zapier works well with, and writing the best pieces of content on the internet around them.

As the readers read their Ultimate Guides, they constantly see different case studies, ways in which Zapier makes their work easier, and so on – and they see signing up to Zapier as the next step after reading the guide. Brilliant.

Now you might be wondering… What if I’m not an online business expert or a big software company? Can I still use Ultimate Guides to grow my online business?

I’m so glad you asked. The answer is HELL YES. In fact, Ultimate Guides are ESPECIALLY useful for you if you’re not an established expert in your niche as they are the best way to become one.

So let’s look at some examples of how new business owners just like you used Ultimate Guides to make a name out of themselves and kick-started their online businesses.

First, there’s Peter Nguyen from Essential Man. Peter used to work as a leather jacket designer and wanted to build an online business around helping successful men dress better (or, as he would say it, look really f*cking good).

He wrote Ultimate Guides about things like buying a leather jacket, a beginner’s style guide, a summer style guide and others to jump start his online business:

The result? Peter built a following of thousands of email subscribers, doubled his traffic with Ultimate Guides, and created a consistent stream of sales for his Essential Wardrobe online course.

A few years ago, nobody knew about Peter. Now even Ramit Sethi is linking to his website when his students ask him what to wear to his events!

How powerful is that? How would YOU feel if an expert like Ramit endorsed your website?

I actually love Peter’s story so much that I asked him how he writes 1-2 of his Ultimate Guides / months, and he’ll be sharing all of his systems, strategies and results with you guys very soon – so stay tuned!

Then we have Ultimate Guide System student Nick who is rapidly establishing as the go-to expert on Facebook advertising for fitness & yoga studies with his Ultimate Guides.

He just published his Complete Beginner’s Guide to Monetizing Facebook Live For Your Fitness or Yoga Business:

Nick has been absolutely crushing it with his Ultimate Guide.

When he was just doing the research for his guide within the first few weeks of joining Ultimate Guide System, he scored two 1-on-1 coaching clients:

But when he released his guide, opportunities just started flying his way.

First, a major software company saw his Ultimate Guide and wanted to feature him as an expert in their upcoming Ultimate Guide:

First, he got a POTENTIAL JOB OFFER because of his Ultimate Guide:

How crazy is THAT?

And it was just the tip of the iceberg.

Shortly, Nick told me that a few of his 7-figure heroes opted into his email list:

And another person reached out to Nick for 1-on-1 consulting:

And did I mention that this guide was Nick’s FIRST post on his website? He got all of those opportunities WITHOUT having a following beforehand. And now he’s already working on his second Ultimate Guide.

I’ll write more about Nick’s story and how he developed his Ultimate Guide over the next few days too – so you’ll be able to hear all the juicy details of it.

Next up we have another Ultimate Guide System student Diana, who helps online entrepreneurs create and manage profitable online communities.

She just published her Ultimate Guide to Building a Profitable Online Community From Scratch:

Diana’s guide is one of the best and most detailed guides I’ve ever read. She worked her ass putting it together, and it shows.

Like Nick, this is Diana’s first post on her new website, and she already got 40 email subscribers within the first week (and she’s just getting started with spreading the word about it).

Selena Soo loved Diana’s guide so much that she shared it with her audience:

She’s getting raving emails from her email subscribers about her guide:

And even the top experts in the industry are now reaching out to her to get feedback on their communities.

Before she worked on her Ultimate Guide, not many people considered the go-to expert on creating profitable online communities – but over the next few months and years they definitely will.

And as you might have guessed, I’ll also be sharing Diana’s story (plus a few other stories) of how she wrote her guide with you over the next few days.

There’s also other Ultimate Guides that my readers and clients have written that you can check out, about a variety of different topics:

  • Allon wrote The Ultimate Guide to High Performance
  • Frank wrote The Ultimate Guide to Virtual Assistants
  • Matej wrote The Ultimate Guide about How to Find More Time and Energy to Start an Online Business
  • Camille wrote The Ultimate Guide to Getting a Date Without Going Online
  • Leslie wrote The Asian Inspired Ultimate Guide to NATURALLY Losing 30 Pounds For Busy, Ambitious Workaholics

Some of these guides helped my readers get hundreds of email subscribers, others helped them get new paying clients, and all of them helped them get a consistent stream of new high quality readers to their websites.

And we have plenty of new Ultimate Guides in the works – from guides about traveling, to songwriting, to teaching your kids about money.

As you can see, a lot of people see that there’s a huge opportunity in creating Ultimate Guides.

From top experts to software companies to driven entrepreneurs who want to make a name out of themselves and get their online businesses off the ground.

So WHY do they do it?

There’re many ways in which you can use Ultimate Guides to grow your online business (I cover 9 of them in my Ultimate Guide Checklist, and I’ll share more of them in the near future).

But the MOST important reason for creating Ultimate Guides is simple.

Ultimate Guides are the best and fastest way to establish yourself as the go-to expert in your niche.

If you write an Ultimate Guide for your audience that’s 10x better than any other resource out there on the same topic, then your Ultimate Guide becomes the go-to resource for anyone who wants to learn more about the topic.

And when you create something that’s 10x better than anything else out there, people notice that. They’ll notice you. They’ll read whatever you write for them. They’ll help you spread the word about it. They’ll want to talk to you, connect with you and work with you.

Ultimate Guides are your opportunity to stand out in a crowded market (like Peter did in the style world), transition into a new niche (like Diana did – she was in a completely different niche before), or even get your online business off the ground (like Nick did).

Once you create content that’s 10x better than anything else out there, you’ll automatically be different than anyone else.

You won’t need to worry about a crowded market, you’ll actually be able to use it to your advantage and bring in all the people that are interested in your topic.

It’s hard to do that with regular blog posts or an occasional guest post. There’s far too many of those out there nowadays, and it feels like everyone can have a blog nowadays given how easy it is to start one.

But I bet that very few people are creating REALLY good content like Ultimate Guides in your niche, and this is your opportunity to make a name out of yourself and become an industry leader.

As you do that, the rest will come:

  • You’ll have more and more website visitors (like Peter who doubled his traffic by writing less blog posts and more Ultimate Guides)
  • You’ll be able to grow your email list (like Neil who got 8,421 email subscribers from one guide)
  • You’ll be able to get your first few paying clients (like Nick who got 3 paying clients and a job offer with his guide)

And the best part? You’ll be able to grow your online business with Ultimate Guides over and over again.

Remember how Ramit, Neil, Peter and Zapier wrote multiple (often 10+) Ultimate Guides to continue growing their online businesses?

You can do the exact same thing.

You don’t have to worry about regular blog posts, guest posting, Facebook ads, SEO, Facebook challenges, and other tactics to grow your online business.

You can pursue them if you want to of course… But you know you won’t NEED them to grow your online business.

You can just create more Ultimate Guides down the line, and you’ll KNOW that with each Ultimate Guide you publish, your business will grow more and more – for years to come.

And the thing is, while anyone can write blog posts or use Facebook ads for their business, not anyone can, wants to, or is willing to write Ultimate Guides.

The barrier to entry with them is way higher, as they require weeks (and sometimes months) of work to complete.

There will always only be a few people in each industry who are willing to put in the work to make them come to life, and reap the benefits of them. And you can be one of those people.

The #1 Strategy for Growing Your Online Business (and Succeeding in Life)

By Primoz Bozic 5 Comments

There’s no “secret” to building a successful online business.

You need to consistently hustle and put in a lot of hard work.

You need to build the right relationships.

You need to find a great business idea.

You need to dream BIG.

You need to work with the right clients.

And more.

But EVEN if you do all of this, your business might not grow as fast as you would want it to grow.

You won’t see the breakthroughs that you see other people have.

You might feel like all of your hard work just isn’t paying off.

If you feel that way, I have good news for you.

There’s no secret to skyrocketing your online business… But there is a fast-track for it.

There’s one thing that you can do that will make EVERYTHING 10x easier.

There’s one thing that you can do to stand out from all other businesses in your industry.

There’s one thing that you can do to grow your online business way quicker than everyone else and become the person that everyone looks up to and wants to talk to.

– Also learn: How To Become An Internet Retailer With Drop Ship Lifestyle.

It’s something that only a fraction of people do.

But it’s also something that ANYONE can do.

And it’s something that a lot of the people in the business world that you admire are already doing.

The “star students”. The “rising stars”. The “future influencers”. They do it.

And even the top influencers in your niche do it ALL the time.

By using this technique, you can:

  • Attract a following of thousands of raving fans who will want to read, share and buy anything you create for them
  • Build relationships with top influencers in your niche
  • Establish yourself as a go-to expert in your niche practically overnight

I know this because I’ve done it myself.

I used this technique to…

  • Build relationships with people like Ramit Sethi, Selena Soo and Derek Halpern
  • Get a position with Ramit Sethi’s company where I worked for 2 years
  • Get published in publications like Business Insider, Entrepreneur.com and Yahoo Finance
  • Spread the word about my business to well over 700,000 people
  • Go from an an idea to a $36,318 product launch in 3 months

And more.

Now let me warn you.

This isn’t a quick fix. This isn’t a magical solution. You won’t be able to do it if you don’t put in the necessary hard work.

But if you are willing to work for it, it works.

In fact, it works every. Single. Time.

Ready to learn what it is?

The fast-track to skyrocketing your online business is going “above and beyond” in everything you do.

By “everything you do”, I mean…

  • You need to go above and beyond for your audience.
  • You need to go above and beyond in connecting with influencers.
  • You need to go above and beyond for yourself.

It’s literally that simple.

Going “above and beyond” in everything you do will allow you to stand out from everyone else.

And when you stand out from everyone else out there, people will notice it.

They’ll talk about it. They’ll want to connect with you, learn from you, and work with you.

You’ll be able to grow your email list faster than you ever imagined. You’ll be able to connect with people that you just admired from a far. You’ll have more people waiting in line to work with you than you can actually take on.

The question is: HOW do you actually go above and beyond in everything you do?

In a way, it’s really simple.

You do the things that have never been done before.

You do the work that other people aren’t willing to do.

You put 10x more effort into everything you do than anyone else.

But that’s kind of vague, right?

Well, let’s get into more details.

I’m going to show you 3 specific examples of how I go above and beyond for my students, to build my business relationships, and for myself.

Then I’ll show you how exactly YOU can get started with going above and beyond as well.

Ready to dive in?

Let’s do it!

3 ways in which I go above and beyond for my AUDIENCE

Going above and beyond for your audience might is the MOST important thing about skyrocketing your online business.

This means going above for your free readers, students of your online courses, attendees of your events, listeners of your podcast, or your 1on1 coaching / consulting / freelance clients.

If you ever want to help or work with someone, my mentality is always to go above and beyond in helping them.

Let’s look at a few examples of how I do this (and how you can do it too).

EXAMPLE #1: I write EPIC posts and Ultimate Guides, rather than regular blog posts

You know that I never really write “regular” blog posts that are 500 or 1,000 words long.

Whenever I write something, I try to make it EPIC.

Whether it’s a blog post, an email to my readers, an online course or an Ultimate Guide, I always try to make it the BEST piece of content on the internet about a certain subject.

I always include plenty of personal stories, specific examples, scripts, examples from the industry, screenshots and other things that make it easy for my readers to put my advice into action and grow their online businesses.

It usually takes a lot more work than it would take me to write a regular blog post about the topic. It might take me days, weeks, or even months to create an incredible piece of content.

But all of that hard work is totally worth it.

For example, I created the Ultimate Guide Checklist in February with the goal to establish myself as the go-to expert on creating Ultimate Guides.

When I created it, I decided I would create the BEST piece of content on the internet on creating Ultimate Guides, that would be 10x better than anything else out there.

I didn’t just create a simple 1-page checklist with the exact steps to create an Ultimate Guide.

I talked about 9 different ways in which you can use Ultimate Guides to grow your online business:

I covered each of the ways in great detail and included case studies from my own business, as well as other businesses to give my readers plenty of ideas for putting the advice into action:

In the checklist, I also covered the biggest mistakes with creating Ultimate Guides and how to avoid them:

I talked about some of the mistakes I personally made with creating past Ultimate Guides (and how I would fix them today):

And of course I also included the actual checklist for creating your first Ultimate Guide, as well as specific strategies and tactics that you can use to go through each of the steps:

I spent 2 weeks putting the whole e-book together, and it ended up being 13,000+ words long. Nobody else has written a piece of content that was as detailed and as comprehensive as this e-book about creating Ultimate Guides, and people noticed.

20+ people shared my guide:

Some of my readers wrote really nice things about it:

And even top experts in my industry began referring to me as the “go-to expert on creating Ultimate Guides”:

Since publishing the guide in late February, I’ve already collected 500+ email subscribers just through this guide through different places where it’s available on my website.

None of these things would have happened if I would have just created a simple blog post about creating Ultimate Guides.

My email list wouldn’t have grown as much.

I wouldn’t become known as the go-to expert on creating Ultimate Guides practically overnight.

And I wouldn’t have had a $36,381 product launch of Ultimate Guide System in March:

Creating incredible content like Ultimate Guides is one of the best ways to establish yourself as a go-to expert in your niche, attract a lot of people to your website, get them to talk about you, and ultimately buy your products.

And it’s a perfect example of going FAR above and beyond for your audience and adding more value to them than anyone else out there.

If you want to learn more about creating Ultimate Guides, definitely check out the Ultimate Guide Checklist (it’s free). You’ll love it.

EXAMPLE #2: I created the BEST course on creating Ultimate Guides, rather than just a regular course.

A big mistake I’ve made in the past was that when I created an online course, I just made it “good enough”.

I created courses like Success Systems, which was my first online course about productivity systems.

It was a good course, and many of the students who went through it told me they loved it.

Still, it wasn’t a course that everyone would be talking about and promoting FOR me.

It never had a super engaged community.

I also didn’t feel like it was the best course on the internet on the topic, so I never went out of my way to publicly promote it.

It was a “good enough” course to get started with my online business… But it wasn’t a course that would really put me on the map.

With Ultimate Guide System, things are completely different.

I’ve had countless people publicly rave about how good the course is:

And even my students have already given me crazy testimonials about it without ever asking for them (like “Ultimate Guide System is kicking other $997 courses I’ve taken in the face”):

It was the course that REALLY put me on the map in the online business world.

It was also the first course I was really proud of, that I can wholeheartedly say is by FAR the best course on creating Ultimate Guides out there, and that I’m always happy to talk to people about.

So how did all of this happen?

It all started with a decision and a commitment to not just create an online course about creating Ultimate Guides, but to create the BEST online course on creating Ultimate Guides.

In my mind, I wanted to create a course that…

  • Really covers EVERY step of creating Ultimate Guides in great detail
  • Consistently brings my students more happy clients
  • My students actually follow through

I wanted to make sure that the techniques in the course actually worked for my students, and not just for me.

I didn’t want there to be any holes in the course where students would get stuck and not be able to follow through.

I wanted to make this course 10x better than anything anyone else would ever be able to create.

That was my dream. And once I committed to doing whatever it takes to make it happen, the dream quickly became a reality.

To make it happen, I put in A LOT of work.

  • I revisited all of my 100,000+ words of past Ultimate Guides and broke down what really worked for each of them
  • I talked to experts, friends and pretty much everyone who has successfully created an Ultimate Guide to figure out how they did it
  • I exchanged hundreds of emails with my readers and did tens of hours of Skype calls to figure out what people struggle with when it comes to Ultimate Guides
  • I took on 5 1-on-1 coaching clients for Ultimate Guides to work closely together with them on creating them
  • Overall I spent well over 3 months doing the research and putting the program together before ever releasing it

I did all of that BEFORE ever launching my course for the first time.

Even though I knew I would make the course even better in the future, I wanted it to become the BEST course on creating Ultimate Guides with the first launch already.

When you’re designing an online course or a program yourself, you have a choice to make.

Either you can create “just an online course” that will make you some money, that you can launch every once in a while and run a nice side business…

Or you can create an INCREDIBLE course that will be 10x better than anything else out there.

A course that really puts your students first. That helps with every possible problem they might have. That helps them solve problems that nobody else is solving for them.

It doesn’t even have to be a HUGE online course like I created.

You can create a smaller course that covers a smaller topic, like…

  • A beginner WordPress course for online entrepreneurs
  • An online course on Facebook Ads for fitness entrepreneurs
  • A step-by-step parenting course for new parents

And even if you create a smaller course on a smaller topic, you can look at what’s already out there, do the work and make the course 10x better than anything else out there.

This way, you can create a course that will absolutely blow people away, that people will love and talk about for years to come.

Example #3: I built an online course that 50%+ of the students will actually finish

A lot of online courses these days have an extremely low follow through rate.

They might sell a lot of copies, and they might even have great advice in them…

But with many online courses, only a few % of students actually follow through, and a fraction of them become case studies.

When I designed Ultimate Guide System, I said things would be different.

I didn’t want to create just another course that people would take, then forget about.

I thought about how to create a course where it would be harder NOT to follow through than to follow through with it.

I thought what would make it EASY for my students to follow through with the course.

I thought about what I can do to make it IMPOSSIBLE for them to fail.

Here are just some of the ways in which I went above and beyond for my students in Ultimate Guide System:

  • I made the program a 1-year program, rather than a standard 8-week program. I want to fully support my students in creating their first, second and third Ultimate Guide.
  • I’m ALWAYS there for my students. I either find a solution to their problem or point them to someone that can do it for them.
  • I offered EVERY student that’s in the process of writing their guide to jump on a 1on1 call with me to help them finish their guide

Here’s what the program “roadmap” looks like:

In short, I’m putting the success of my students first and I’m doing everything I can make sure they’re successful with my program.

I have their back.

Most people don’t do this.

They create a video course without any live support.

I hosted 14 weekly live 90-minute calls where we not only talked about how to create Ultimate Guides, but also gave them direct feedback on every step of creating their guides. And they have 9 more months of live calls they can attend to do just that.

They create a community that they pop into once in a while.

I make sure that every student gets their questions answered in the community / parts of their guide reviewed, so they can move forward with it.

They create a course that has holes in it that don’t really work as advertised.

I’m already working on the 2.0 version of Ultimate Guide System that will make the course 10x better and easier to go through (more on that in the last example of this email).

I wouldn’t NEED to do any of these things.

I could launch a course without all of these components. It might still be a good course. The information would still be there.

But I know that if I did that, most people would never follow through with it.

And that’s just not a game I want to play. I don’t want to run a business where 3% of my paying clients are successful. I want to run a business where 50%+ of my clients are successful, if not more.

That’s another way in which I go above and beyond for my students in Ultimate Guide System, that you too can apply to your own business.

Think about how YOU can make sure your paying clients are successful.

How can you run your online courses differently?

How can you work with your coaching clients differently?

How can you go above and beyond for everyone you work with?

If you have some ideas, write them down now, before we move on to the next step.

3 ways in which I go above and beyond in CONNECTING WITH INFLUENCERS

Creating incredible content is the first and most important part of running your online business.

If you don’t create incredible content that’s 10x better than everyone else in your industry, you’ll never become an industry leader.

If you do create incredible content, other industry leaders will notice you, want to talk to you and work with you…

IF you know how to approach them in the right way and spend time building authentic relationships with them.

And once you have those relationships, they can be like putting gasoline to the fire.

They can help you spread the word about your business and brand like nothing else.

They can bring opportunities your way that you never imagined.

They can even be the thing that turns a business that’s doing OK to a business that’s growing faster than you ever imagined.

Building authentic relationships with industry leaders has been crucial to my business success.

Having mentors like Ramit Sethi, Derek Halpern and Selena Soo by my side allowed me to learn how they run their businesses, soak in the information from them like a sponge, and get business breakthroughs I would never get on my own.

Hanging out with Ramit Sethi and Derek Halpern in NYC
Hanging out with Selena Soo at her business anniversary party in NYC

So what was the “secret” to building those relationships?

Well, you guessed it – it was constantly going above and beyond for them.

Let’s look over some examples.

EXAMPLE #1: How I started building a relationship with Selena Soo

I first heard about Selena when she was a fellow beta student of Ramit Sethi’s Zero to Launch course.

At that point, she was already running a very successful online business, and Ramit would help her take her business to the next level.

For a long time, I followed and admired Selena from a far, because I didn’t quite know how to connect with her or add value to her.

It was more than a year later when I finally made the first step of building a relationship with her – and at that time I wasn’t even thinking about building a relationship with her. I just saw an opportunity to help her out, and I did.

At the time, I was already working as the Accelerator coach for Ramit Sethi, and I was a bit more confident in my abilities to help other business owners with their businesses.

When Selena asked for feedback on one of her product launch emails in a community I was a part of, I was excited to help her out.

She made a thread in the community where she shared one of her emails, and asked the community how she could make the email better.

When I saw the thread, there were already quite a few comments on it.

A lot of other people already gave her some good feedback, but I noticed that a few things:

  • Some of the feedback was good, some of it wasn’t and kind of missed the point of the email. There were potential improvements I noticed about the email that nobody else shared yet.
  • The comments overall were a mess – 10 people were commenting in the Facebook thread, while 10 other people were commenting in the google doc.
  • I knew Selena was busy, and I thought I could save her some time by working through the comments for her and filtering the good stuff from the bad stuff.

To address all of that, I decided to go through all of the comments that were already there, made a mental note of the good ones, and thought about how I could further improve the email.

Then I did the most important thing of all. I didn’t just add 10 additional comments to the google doc.

I thought it would be fun to go ahead and try to rewrite Selena’s email keeping all the possible improvements in mind, and I did just that.

Below her email in the google doc, I wrote a completely new version of the email.

Then I told Selena that I looked through all of the comments, added my own and drafted up an example of what an improved email would look like:

I did this because it was fun. I didn’t look for anything in return. I really just genuinely wanted to help her out.

So what happened?

Well, Selena loved that I helped her out and went above and beyond for her:

And a few months later when I was in NYC and I reached out to her if she wanted to grab lunch, she said yes – and this the beginning of a great friendship that we now have:

Funnily enough, Selena mentioned this story in her INFLUENCE program, and shared it as a great example of going above and beyond and building relationships with influencers.

And years later, she told me: “Primoz, one thing I love about you is that you always go above and beyond for me. That’s what makes you stand out from everyone else”.

Just like I went above and beyond for Selena, you too can go above and beyond for people that you want to connect with.

It’s just so much more effective than just “sending influencers articles they might enjoy” and stuff like that, because it really makes people remember you by being so much different from everyone else.

Now let’s look at some more examples of how you can go above and beyond in your relationships.

EXAMPLE #2: How I built a relationship with Derek Halpern

I first met Derek years ago at a conference called Behaviorcon, where he was a speaker.

Ramit Sethi introduced me to him as “one of his top students, who just takes whatever I throw at him, puts it into action and gets awesome results”.

Derek’s response?

He gave me his personal email and told me to share with him how I implement the advice from his speech.

So I did.

A few months later, I sent him an email about how I used one of his techniques for my product launch and make 19k? in revenues.

Then I sent him another email later where I shared a story about how I used the technique to help my friends start their businesses.

Both of those helped me get noticed by Derek – he even featured me on a sales page on one of his courses.

But the thing that I’m most proud of is something that I did much much later.

In January, I bought Derek’s course called Sales Page That Converts.

I did that because I wanted to create an incredible sales page for Ultimate Guide System.

I went through the course, wrote one of the best sales pages I’ve written to date and successfully brought in $36,318 in revenues.

Not only was I super happy with the results from my launch, I was also completely blown away by Derek’s course.

It was hands down the best course I’ve ever gone through on creating sales pages and it was a complete game changer for my business.

I finally had a framework that I could use over and over again to create mouthwatering sales pages, with every future product I created.

At this stage, I could’ve done one of the 3 things:

  • Not let Derek know about my results with the course, because “he’s too busy and probably doesn’t care” (which is the worst option)
  • Send him an email with the results I got from the course and let him know he can use it as a testimonial (this would be a better option, but I’m sure he gets plenty of those)
  • Do something completely different that would really do his course justice, spread the word about it and help him get more people into his awesome program

Of course I went with the last option.

In the past, I’ve written a super detailed review for Ramit Sethi’s Zero to Launch course, which I knew helped Ramit bring a lot of new students into his Zero to Launch program.

Because I knew that I could write a great course review and because I knew how powerful having an independent review can be for your business, I decided to write a review of Derek’s course too.

Not only that – I decided to write the ULTIMATE review of his course that would be the best, most comprehensive and most detailed review of his course that anyone would ever write.

So I did.

Over the next few days I wrote an 8,019 word review of his course, and I’m confident that this is the best review anyone would ever write.

You can check it out here.

And Derek loved the review (his first reaction was “now I need to figure out how to promote this”):

This was just one of the many ways in which I’ve added value to Derek, and to this day I continue to think about how I can stand out from everyone else and continue to build a relationship with him.

Of course you don’t need to spend days writing reviews like this to add value to influencers (although you could).

I know writing super long reviews isn’t easy for everyone – it’s easy for me.

Whenever you’re trying to add value to an influencer that you want to connect with, think about how you can go above and beyond for them in YOUR OWN WAY.

Are you really great on video? Record a video testimonial for them.

Are you great at giving gifts? Send them an awesome gift.

Are you great at writing long posts? Write a really long post about the lessons you learned from them.

For more ideas on how to go above and beyond and start building relationships with influencers in your niche, check out this amazing article from Selena Soo:

Ok, I have one last example for you, which I know you guys will love.

A lot of you know that I became one of Ramit’s star students, and even ended up working with him for 2+ years in his Accelerator program.

So how did I get there? How did I even get Ramit to notice me in the first place?

I don’t want to give you just ONE example, so I’ll give you a few different examples to help you spark more ideas for how you can go above and beyond in your business relationships.

EXAMPLE #3: 5 things that helped me build a relationship with Ramit Sethi

When I was preparing to meet Ramit Seth in person for the first time (I attended his live event called “The 100k Summit”), I asked one of my mentors, Naveen Dittakavi from NextVacay how I could make a great impression on Ramit.

He told me that I could record a video testimonial and send it to him, as very few people do that. You can learn all about how I did that in my Quick Guide to Surrounding Yourself With Successful People.

So I did. I recorded a video testimonial, and stood out from all the other people that would just create written testimonials for Ramit:

The other piece of advice I got from Naveen (that I also write about here) is to prepare really well for the conference in advance.

I spent a whole MONTH preparing for the conference.

I watched his 8-hour creative live class. I wrote down tens of really good questions. I created notecards with them. I completed every single piece of homework that Ramit gave us before the event.

I ended up being BY FAR the most prepared person at the conference, which made a great impression on Ramit.

I constantly asked well thought out questions – during the breaks, during the Q & A sessions and during the hot seats.

I made sure that Ramit would remember me next time we met.

To this day, I’m surprised how few people do something like this.

Whenever I meet people in person or go to live events, VERY FEW people come prepared for them. And almost no-one comes SUPER prepared.

So if you want to stand out at a conference and make a great impression on the speakers, being the most prepared person in the room is the simplest way to do so.

It’s time consuming (which is why nobody does it), but if you put in the work, you really can’t leave a conference unnoticed.

Let’s go to the third example.

At the 100k Summit, someone took this photo of me and Ramit:

I like to joke that Ramit didn’t like the fact I was wearing the same outfit as I was… But here’s what really happened.

On the last day of the conference, I told Ramit that I would implement everything I learned from it over the next month.

To get a little bit of extra accountability, I asked him to “make a disappointed face that he would make if I told him a month that I didn’t take any of his advice”.

With a disappointed Ramit photo in my pocket, I was ready to completely change my business.

And I did.

Over the next month, I used 3 of Ramit’s techniques to DOUBLE my monthly revenues from my business.

Nobody else at the conference got results like that so quickly, because they weren’t as focused on taking massive action immediately as I was. This again allowed me to stand out from everyone else at the conference and make Ramit remember me.

I met Ramit again at his conference called Behaviorcon.

As he was one of the organizers, he was absolutely swamped during the conference, and I didn’t really want to bother him throughout the event.

On the last day of the conference, I went up to him and casually mentioned that I used his advice from the 100k Summit to double my monthly revenues.

He was so blown away that he pulled me out from the conference room into the hallway and recorded a video on his iPhone to capture my results:

I felt like that was the tipping point where Ramit REALLY noticed me.

A few months later, he invited me to grab lunch with him in San Francisco:

And his team even invited me to become one of the beta testers of the Zero to Launch course because they knew I was an action taker.

I never expected or planned on any of those things to happen.

All I wanted to do is add value to someone who I really admired and go above and beyond for them.

But this goes to show you the awesome opportunities that can happen if you DO consistently go above and beyond.

I have two more examples for you.

After I took Ramit’s Zero to Launch beta course, I wrote a review of Zero to Launch.

Just like with Derek’s review, I wanted to make this the best review of Zero to Launch anyone would ever write.

And then, as time went by, I thought about how I could make the review even better.

After one and a half year of taking Zero to Launch, I went from just having 500 emails subscribers (at the time I wrote the first version of the review) to having 2,000+ email subscribers and my first 5-figure launch.

I took everything that I learned and wrote two detailed updates of the review (that you can read here), which is what nobody else did.

I felt like this would be an awesome opportunity to show people how powerful the course can actually be in the long run for their online business, and it was another way for me to stand out from everyone else and go above and beyond for Ramit.

The last example of how I go above and beyond for Ramit is a bit different, and it’s something that I still do to this day.

I go above and beyond for him by adding massive value to his Zero to Launch community.

Ramit has helped me so much over the years that I love giving back to his Zero to Launch students.

And the way that I stand out from everyone else is by writing the most detailed, comprehensive posts in the community. Nobody else does what I do.

For example, I recently wrote a super detailed post about how Ramit taught me to to choose excellence over mediocrity when I worked with him for 2 years:

Then I wrote a super detailed post about how I went from an idea to a $36,381 product launch in 3 months:

And on the plane during my recent trip to NYC I hosted an “Ask me Anything” in his community where I answered the questions from his students about online business for 4+ hours:

And gave super detailed responses that could very well be blog posts (this is just a PART of one of my responses):

Nobody else does this, so this allows me to stand out from all of his other students.

As you can see, there are many different ways in which you can go above and beyond to build relationships with people you admire.

You’ll also notice that plenty of ways in which I go above and beyond is by writing really long, detailed stuff – whether it’s course reviews or posts in online communities.

That’s because that’s what I’m good at and it works for me.

But the underlying principle here is to always think about how you can be different from everyone else. What can you do that nobody else is willing or is too lazy to do?

Going above and beyond for people you admire consistently is a sure way to start building lasting, authentic relationships with them.

Now you know how to go above and beyond for your audience, as well as in connecting with influencers, which are two crucial skills to help you skyrocket the growth of your online business.

But there’s one more thing that very few people talk about, and might be the hardest thing of all.

Going above and beyond for yourself.

3 ways in which I go above and beyond FOR MYSELF

So what does “going above and beyond for yourself” really mean?

I see it simply as pushing yourself beyond the limits of what you’re capable of right now.

Just like a marathon runner constantly tries to beat the best time in which he can run a marathon, we need to think about how we can constantly improve ourselves and accomplish more than we accomplished before as business owners.

If we don’t do this, we’ll end up coasting and resting on our laurels. We’ll live a good life, but we won’t live an exceptional one. We’ll create a business that makes money, but won’t become industry leaders.

This is the hardest thing of all to do because it doesn’t just require effort or following a script.

It requires being brutally honest with yourself, making an honest assessment about where you can improve, and letting go of some habits that are making you comfortable, but prevent you from unlocking your full potential.

Things like spending too much time on Facebook. Checking emails multiple times a day. Responding to every message you get immediately. And so on and so on.

I want to share with you 3 examples in how I’m going above and beyond for myself and pushing myself beyond what I’m capable of right now, which will help you come up with some ideas on how you can go above and beyond for yourself too.

EXAMPLE #1: I’m writing 100,000 words this month

For the last few months I’ve felt a little bit frustrated with myself.

Specifically, I was frustrated that I was spending more time THINKING about what to do, rather than DOING the things that were really important for growing my business.

I thought about writing 5 different Ultimate Guides, but I didn’t even write one.

I spent months trying to figure out “where to go next in my business” and running small experiments, rather than going all in on establishing myself as the go-to expert on creating Ultimate Guides.

I spent a lot of my time tweaking the copy on my website, and very little time spreading the word about it.

Two weeks ago I finally had enough.

This wasn’t who I wanted to be. I wanted to stop being the worst version of myself and become the best version of myself.

So I picked things that frustrated me, and said to myself I’d get rid of them one by one.

The first thing I wanted to change was to CONSUME less and CREATE more.

I knew that if I just let all of my thoughts out on paper and created some epic blog posts and Ultimate Guides, my business would take off again.

But just “writing more” wasn’t exciting for me. Neither was writing 1,000 words / day. I know I can do that, and it’s not a challenge for me.

I wanted to do something BIG. Something that would really push me over the list of what I think I’m capable of. Something that very few people have done before.

So I decided to take on “The 100k Challenge”.

I committed to writing 100,000 words / month, which is roughly 3,700 words / day if I wrote for 6 out of 7 days a week.

Now THAT’s a challenge that’s exciting for me, and a way to go way above and beyond for myself.

This challenge is the main reason why I’m even writing this post, and if you’re curious I’m just over 40k words out of 100k words after the first two weeks.

I wrote these posts as a part of the challenge:

  • 10 Powerful Lessons From Selena Soo’s Life-Changing Mastermind
  • 100 Happy Clients: The ONLY Goal You Need to Grow Your Online Business This Year
  • 7 Mistakes to Avoid While Writing Your First Ultimate Guide

And there’s a lot more awesome posts coming VERY shortly.

Since I started the challenge, working on my business feels so much different. It feels like I’m actually working on things that matter, rather than just doing “busy work”. And I’m just focusing on ONE thing, rather than trying to grow my business in 10 different ways.

I know that once I finish this challenge, I’ll feel like I have accomplished something I didn’t think was possible for me before – and that even after the challenge I’ll create a lot more awesome content because I’ll already have the right habits put in place to do it.

The side effect of doing this challenge is that it won’t just help me push myself to the limit, it will also be incredibly valuable for my business.

I know I’ll be able to write about the challenge once it’s finished and spread the word about my work. “What I learned from writing 100,000 words in 30 days” is just not something that you hear every day, and I know that a lot of online entrepreneurs will be interested in reading about it and talk about it to other people.

I’ll also be able to help my Ultimate Guide System students create more Ultimate Guides by teaching them how to write more consistently with the lessons I learn from the challenge – plus they’ll be able to say to themselves that if Primoz can write 100,000 words in a month they can write 10,000 words too.

There’s so many good things that come out of doing challenges like this to go above and beyond for yourself – and they make building an online business a ton more fun too.

So think about it. Is there a challenge that you could take on as well to push yourself beyond what you’re capable?

Could you challenge yourself to do something amazing within a month? Or maybe even a week to get started? One of the future things I’ll probably do is have a challenge to write an incredible Ultimate Guide in a week, which is a smaller commitment, but will still push me out of my comfort zone.

Think about it. It doesn’t have to be related to writing. It can be related to doing customer research. Getting clients. Going above and beyond for your existing clients. Getting more publicity for your business.

Do any ideas come to mind? If yes, write them down.

Now let’s look at the next example.

EXAMPLE #2: I’m working with a high performance coach to think bigger, accomplish more, and take my business to the next level

Taking on the 100k Challenge already helped me feel like I’m moving my business forward way faster.

But I didn’t want it to just end there.

I feel like for a long time, I’ve been running my business like a hobby.

Because I consistently went above and beyond for my audience and for the influencers I wanted to build relationships with, my business grew well,

But it didn’t grow as much as I would have wanted it to grow. And I didn’t feel like I was really doing my best to grow it.

I saw myself spending way too much time just randomly browsing through email, Facebook or Instagram. I hate to admit this, but I could spend hours and hours each day just doing that.

I could get away with it because nobody (apart from my girlfriend) could see it, and because of all the work that I already put into my online business.

But deep down, I knew that this is not who I wanted to be.

I don’t want to just run a 6-figure business that allows me to live a comfortable lifestyle.

I don’t want to be someone who just follows the top experts in the industry and follows what they tell him to do.

I want to BECOME one of those experts that other experts follow and ask for advice.

I want to go far beyond building a 6-figure business. I want to take my business to 7 and 8 figures over the next few years.

And not only that. I want to create thousands and thousands of happy clients while doing it, and reach millions of people all over the world with my message.

I want to stop being just a “star student” and become one of the industry leaders of the online business world.

And for that, I need to stop doing what I’m doing. I need to think differently. I need to spend my time differently. I need to act differently.

And I know that I can’t do all of this by myself. I need help from people who already know how to do that.

As soon as I had that realization, I knew EXACTLY who to turn to for help.

You might not have heard of him yet, but over the next few years you will definitely hear a lot about him.

His name is Allon Khakshouri.

Allon used to work as a manager of some of the world’s best tennis players, including Novak Djokovic who has absolutely dominated the tennis scene over the past few years.

Allon’s superpower is turning the top 100 tennis players into top 10, and eventually #1 tennis players.

He knows everything there is to know about high performance and the mentality of the world’s top athletes, and now he’s taking his knowledge to the business world.

He’s focused on working with online business “underdogs” and turning them into absolute superstars, like he did with the tennis players in the past.

He recently wrote The Ultimate Guide to High Performance where he shares some of the best strategies that high performers use to become the best in the world at what they do, and if what he teaches resonates with you, I definitely recommend you to check it out.

I turned to Allon because I know that he can help me get from the top 100 online business expert to top 10, and in the future become the #1 online business expert out there.

I knew that Allon wouldn’t go easy on me, and that he would tell me exactly what I needed to hear to push myself to my limits, even when I didn’t want to hear it.

Here’re a couple of changes that we’ve already made to the way that I run my online business over the past few weeks.

#1: I need to get two “power blocks” of writing time in every day.

This means I go to a coffee shop where I write for 60-90 minutes twice a day – once before and once after my workout.

This was hard for me because I needed to completely clear out my schedule in the mornings, make sure I go to bed by 11pm every day, and actually make it to the coffee shop without any excuses.

During these power blocks, I can only write or not do anything else, which can also be hard sometimes when I feel tired and I really just want to go through some emails.

#2: I only have 90 minutes a day of “online time” a day.

This includes working through all of my emails, being on Facebook, helping my students through my communities, etc.

This was hard for me because I’m used to being on my phone WAY more than that, including the first thing in the morning to “wake up”, on the toilet or in the evening once I’m done with working.

When we started this habit I felt like an addict who just got his drug taken away… It wasn’t a fun few days, but now I can’t imagine going back to my old ways as I get SO much more work done, and I don’t feel the need to check my phone every 2 seconds.

Plus, to my surprise, it doesn’t even take me 90 minutes to work through all of my online work. I’m usually done in 60 minutes or less because I actually spend the online time in a smart way, not mindlessly scrolling.

#3: I need to have 15 minutes of “thinking time” a day.

During this time, I can only think, or take notes of what I’m thinking. I’m not allowed to be on the internet, consume content or anything else.

This concept was weird for me at first. How am I supposed to just think and not do anything?

The Allon told me that I can use this time for planning out parts of my business. So during this time, I started outlining my future emails and blog posts, which made writing them so much easier.

This is another thing I wasn’t doing before, yet it helps me function so much better now.

Now I feel like I’m actually making progress in my business, and the results have been HUGE already.

For example, here’s what I accomplished last week with my new approach:

  • I wrote well over 16,000 words last week
  • I reviewed 3 guest posts for my website, and edited a guest post I will get published on a big website soon
  • I created a launch plan for Ultimate Guide System 2.0.
  • I got 18!!! 1on1 and group client calls done. That’s not a typo.
  • I created a presentation for the second to last week of Ultimate Guide System
  • I reached out to 3 of my mentors and got incredible feedback on my product launch plan
  • I got 10 hours of workouts in in the gym
  • I spent two nights hanging out with friends, went to a BBQ party over the weekend, and had 5 guilt-free date nights with my girlfriend, which is how many I usually have in a MONTH

And I know that all of this is just the beginning.

That’s the second way in which I’m going above and beyond for myself – working with someone who’s the best in the world at what they do.

Now you might be thinking to yourself “well Primoz that’s great for you, but I don’t have the access to this kind of people myself”.

First of all, that’s not entirely true. Now that you know how to go above and beyond in connecting with influencers, you too can build authentic relationships with people like Allon, Derek Halpern, Selena Soo and Ramit Sethi.

It takes a lot of time and effort to do it (usually it takes years to build a really strong relationship), but if you really want to do it, now you know how to make it happen.

The other thing that you can do is use what you DO have already. For example, you could read Allon’s Ultimate Guide. He shares some of his best advice right there in the guide!

You could also hire a coach, join an online course, or read a book, an e-book or an Ultimate Guide to improve your current skill set.

Then all that remains is really being true to yourself, and committing to taking action and making those changes actually happen.

It’s not easy (and it shouldn’t be), but it’s not complicated either.

You think about something that you need to get better. You think about HOW you can get better at it and find the right resource to do it. And then you get over your excuses and get started. It literally is that simple.

Now I challenge you to think about one thing that you KNOW you need to get better at, and think about how you can get started with it TODAY.

You don’t actually need to do it – for now just write it down.

Ok, one last example of how I go above and beyond for myself.

EXAMPLE #3: I’m creating Ultimate Guide System 2.0 only 3 months after launching it for the first time

As I’ve mentioned earlier, I’m committed to making Ultimate Guide System the BEST course on creating Ultimate Guides that anyone will ever create.

Part of that was doing the customer research and working with my 1on1 clients up-front to develop a great system, which I’ve already talked about in this post.

The other part of it is improving the program based on the feedback of my first customers.

You see, most people don’t collect feedback about how to make their online courses better. Many of the ones that do never actually implement the feedback and leave “holes” in their programs where people get stuck and fail to follow through. There’s plenty of online courses out there that only a few % of people finish. And out of the people that do take the feedback, most of them create a 2.0 version of the program after a whole year.

In fact, I’ve never seen anyone do it faster than that.

And yet, here I am, thinking to myself… Why not?

Yeah, there is an argument for having a lot of people go through your program before making changes to it… But if I already tested the program and worked closely together with my students to see how they’re doing with it, and I see ways to make it 10x better, then I don’t WANT more people to go through a program that is NOT 10x better.

So I said to myself that I’ll just create the Ultimate Guide System 2.0 right now.

I thought about different ways that I know I could make the course 10x better. I asked my students what would make the course 10x better for them. I ended up with 5 game-changing features for the program that will take it to a whole other level.

And I know that it’ll be a lot of work to implement… But the best time to do that is NOW. I don’t want to wait another year and “coast”. I want to make this program even better right now, and make even more of my students successful with my program.

This makes me go above and beyond for myself because I’ve never actually done something like this. I never approached any of my online courses with such a commitment to rapidly improve them and make them bulletproof. Especially not in such a short time frame.

But I know this is totally possible to do. All it requires is a decision to do it, to delay some other less important projects, and make it happen right now.

As I said earlier… Why not?

So what can you take away from this example?

Well, if you do have an online course or a coaching program that you’ve been thinking about improving, one way to go above and beyond for yourself is to give yourself a few weeks or a month and actually make it happen.

But even if that’s not what you want to do or if you don’t have a program you’re selling yet, there’s a lesson here for you.

And the lesson lies in the “why not?”.

If there’s something that you’ve been thinking of doing for a while, but never quite got around to it, you could start working on it today and making it happen.

Maybe it’s an epic blog post or an Ultimate Guide you wanted to write. Maybe it’s an online course or a coaching program you wanted to launch. Maybe it’s that first email that you wanted to send to one of the leaders in your industry to start building a relationship with them.

You could start working on one of those things today… I mean why not?

If any things come to mind that you’ve been putting off for a while and you could get started with, write them down. Again, you don’t need to act on them immediately (we’ll get to that in a second), but I do want you to have plenty of ideas in what you could do to go above and beyond for yourself, for influencers in your niche or for your audience. It’s better to have too many ideas than too few.

Now it’s time for some cold hard truth.

In this post, I’ve shared 9 (actually 13, since I shared 5 examples in the chapter about how I built a relationship with Ramit Sethi) examples of how I go above and beyond in everything I do.

And I showed you how going above and beyond can help you grow your online business so much faster as you’ll be able to get more done for your business, make a bigger impact on the lives your audience, and build business relationships that will bring you business opportunities that you’ve never even dreamed of.

Now you know the theory. You also have plenty of ideas and examples for going above and beyond in your own business.

And yet, none of this will help you out UNLESS you do the following two things:

  • Get started with going above and beyond in everything you do (and stop doing things in a half-assed way) today
  • Keep going above and beyond over and over and over again in all the important areas of your business

It’s literally that simple… And that hard.

Going above and beyond over and over again isn’t easy. Because you’ll have times when you procrastinate the big projects that you have in your mind. Because you might be surrounded by people who don’t believe in you or support in you. Because you’ll say to yourself that “this will never work” and never test your ideas out.

The good news is that this happens to ALL of us (and I shared quite a few examples of what I’m working on right now to improve myself).

The difference between the people that never build an online business, people who build a semi-successful online business and the people who build an ultra-successful online business is pretty damn simple:

  • The people who never build a successful online business never actually go above and beyond on anything. They take small steps here and there, but never do anything that really goes above and beyond that people would notice and remember them by.
  • The people who build a semi-successful online business have bright moments where they go above and beyond, which leads to their business breakthroughs. But after they get these breakthroughs, they plateau because they rest on their laurels and aren’t hungry enough to keep going and pushing themselves further and further.
  • The people who build an ultra-successful online business CONSISTENTLY go above and beyond for themselves, for their audience, and in connecting with influencers in their niche. It’s not that they don’t have all the mental blocks and challenges that other people have… They just don’t let the challenges stop them. They know they are meant to do big things in life, and they repeatedly mess up, get back on their feet, and keep going to matter what.

If you want to build an ultra-successful online business and grow it faster than 99% of the other people out there, that’s what it really is all about. Going above and beyond, and doing it consistently day in and day out. The more consistent you can be, the more you go above and beyond, the more you’ll accomplish.

Remember that. Remember that there’s no “secret” to building an online business. You really just need to cut out the stuff that isn’t getting you anywhere and do what you know is important 10x better than anyone else. As long as you do that and stick with it, it’ll be harder for you NOT to be successful than to grow it.

There’s no better time to get started with going above and beyond than today

Okay, enough talk. You’ve read this 9,000+ words into this article, so I know you’re not one of the people who will never have a successful online business.

Most of them dropped off when they saw how long this post is, gave up in the middle of it or sent me an email about “how I should write shorter blog posts”.

Those people will never make it because they don’t have what it takes. If you can’t spend 20 minutes reading a blog post, then how could you possibly have what it takes to build an ultra successful online business?

Now if you have read this whole post, I’m sending you a high five.

You’re already different than most other people. You’re already going above and beyond for yourself.

If you took notes while reading it, even better (most people didn’t). That’s another way in which you’re standing out from everyone else.

Now, there’s just one thing left to do – often the hardest one of all, and what will determine whether you make it in your business, or if it’ll just be a dream that you never made happen.

It’s time to take action.

As you might have noticed, I already went above and beyond for you. I didn’t just write a blog post with the idea of going above and beyond and tell you to magically “do more of it”.

I showed you HOW I do it and how you can do it too. I’ve shared more examples with you than most people do in their paid online courses.

Now if you’re serious about seeing your business grow like wildfire, let’s put this stuff into action.

Here’s what I want you to do:

Pick just ONE of the things that you wrote down while reading this long post. One way in which you can go above and beyond for yourself, your audience or for the influencers you want to connect with.

It doesn’t matter what it’s about. Just pick something you are actually EXCITED to work on.

Did you pick one thing yet?

Good.

Now think about how you can get started with it RIGHT NOW.

What can you do to put the wheels into motion?

What is one small step that you can take that will take this idea from your head and start making it a reality?

Did you write that down?

Good.

Just a few more things to do. Yes, I’m making you work your ass off, because rapidly growing an online business IS hard work.

  1. Leave a comment below this post with (1) your one way of going above and beyond and (2) what you’ll do to put it into motion today.
  2. Let me know that you left a comment by replying to the email in which I sent you this blog post. If you’re not on my email list yet, you can subscribe here.
  3. Get started with putting your one thing into motion NOW. Not in 5 minutes. Not in an hour. Not tomorrow. Make the first step right now, even if it’s an insanely small one.

And that’s it.

I gotta say – I admire you for reading all the way through this post. It took me days to write, and I appreciate you sticking around long enough to actually read the whole thing.

I love working with and helping people like you, because I know that you’ll make it incredibly far in the online business world.

And if you’re ready to change the world and start going above and beyond in everything you do, I have the perfect thing to help you get started.

Remember how I said that the MOST important thing in which you should go above and beyond is for your audience?

And remember how you can get started with that by creating incredible content that’s 10x better than what most people create in your industry, like Ultimate Guides?

Because you read this long post, I know that you want to do something more – and that you have what it takes to create something as big as an Ultimate Guide – that will change your online business forever.

I know that because my Ultimate Guides have been a key strategy for growing my online business – because they go far above and beyond the regular blog posts.

If you want to get started with creating one today, get hundreds or even thousands of email subscribers to your online business, bring in more paying clients to your business and establish yourself as an industry leader, then check out my FREE 47-page Ultimate Guide Checklist below.

7 Mistakes to Avoid While Writing Your First Ultimate Guide

By Primoz Bozic 1 Comment

Writing an Ultimate Guide isn’t easy.

Even with the right support, it can take MONTHS to get one written – and many people get stuck in their perfectionism and never finish it.

Over the past few months, I worked with my 1on1 client Matej on creating his Ultimate Guide about “How to Find More Time and Energy to Start an Online Business”.

I’m super proud of all the work that he’s put into the guide, and it’s a really incredible piece of content.

After he finished writing the guide, Matej reached out to me and shared with me a few key lessons that he learned from writing his first guide, that he will use to write his next Ultimate Guide in half the time.

I absolutely loved these lessons because they show the other side of writing really exceptional content that very few people talk about.

I loved how Matej openly shared the mistakes that he made, as well as the specific ways in which he will avoid them next time – so I decided to share them on my blog.

If you’re thinking about (or in the process of) writing your first Ultimate Guide, this is a must read.

Matej, take it away :).

Matej’s mistakes and key takeaways from writing his first 25k word ultimate guide

In late December 2016 I started working on a bigger project for my side business – writing an ultimate guide “How to Find More Time and Energy to Start an Online Business”.

I knew it does not have to necessarily be a huge project lasting for months. However, I wanted to make it great, highly valuable for my readers for the years to come so I wanted to put a lot of effort into it.

With the demanding full-time job and two small kids at home (2 and 5 year old) I knew it’s going to be a challenge but exciting one. I wanted to write an Ultimate Guide for months but was always avoiding it.

Suddenly, my mentor Primoz Bozic shifted his business to helping people writing Ultimate Guides and I’ve become one of his first 1on1 clients. So we started working together.

Expected time frame for publishing the guide was 2-3 months.

I was very excited to make it happen.

Looking back, it has been 5 months until I finally published my Ultimate Guide.

I know I could have published my guide a lot faster, and now I know exactly how to write and publish my next Ultimate Guide in half the time.

Today I want to share with you the biggest mistakes I’ve made while writing my first Ultimate Guide and the key takeaways from the process that you can use to successfully write your first Ultimate Guide without spending 5 months on it like I did.

Mistake #1: I tried to make the Table of Contents too perfect

When Primoz and I started working together, things went really well. I had a lot of my free time since there was a Christmas holiday, and I didn’t need to go to work.

I spent most of that time jumping on calls with a few of my readers and friends to narrow down and validate my idea for the Ultimate Guide.

Validating my business idea by talking to people had always been tough for me, but finally I’ve managed to do it and it was actually a ton of fun.

Not only did those calls help me with my idea, but I’ve also aimed to add massive value to those people as well.

Every time I jumped on a call with someone to help me with the idea, I also offered to help them out with any questions they would have about finding more time and energy to work on their side business.

As I did that, one of the readers loved my help so much that he wanted to work with me.

That’s how I landed my first ever client from my side business:

Once I was confident about the idea I’ve started working on the Table of Contents.

The first draft was done pretty fast, but then I hit a roadblock.

I was not sure if it’s great enough. And because I wanted to make it perfect I was tweaking the Table of Contents for about two weeks.

I went back to the people that helped me validate the idea for my guide and asked them to give me feedback on my Table of Contents.

The problem was that I needed to wait for them to get back to me, then incorporate their feedback, and repeat the process over and over again.

This lead me to procrastinating on my guide because I did not feel like working on it again and again. There were quite a few days when I was not working on it at all because I did not feel like it.

Luckily, Primoz stopped me from further procrastination and told me that my Table of Contents was good enough to move forward.

I spent just one more day polishing the final version of the Table of Contents by jumping on Skype calls with two friends who helped me finalize it right on the spot in the way I was confident that it’s great.

Here’s what the final version of the Table of Contents looked like:

What I’ll do differently next time:

After writing the first draft of the Table of Contents, I’ll get on a call with 1-3 of my ideal readers and go through it live together.

It’s much easier and faster for both parties than waiting for people to leave you comments in the google doc. It’s also much better talking through what they think about the guide and how they feel about it.

Together, we can easily tweak some of the headlines to make them more compelling and find the right order of the chapters so the guide flows well.

I won’t spend more than one week on the Table of Contents because I know it will lead to procrastination and doubts if it’s great or not.

I’ll spend a week on it, make it good enough, and then make further changes as I’m writing the guide if I need to.

Mistake #2: I bit off more than I could chew

As soon as I completed my Table of Contents, I knew that the guide would be huge.

I knew that because I always write very long posts where I try to explain everything in detail to give as much value to my readers as possible.

I thought that was OK since I wanted my guide to be really great, and the best piece of content on the internet on that topic.

However, looking back and seeing that this was my first ever Ultimate Guide, I would probably split the guide into a few smaller topics.

This way, I’d cover just one specific topic in great detail (like how to find the energy to work on your side business after you come home from work), and write a guide that’s about 10k words long instead of going for that 25k beast:

Doing this would help me create the guide two or three times faster, and I’m sure it would also be easier to keep the momentum while writing my guide.

What I’ll do differently next time:

The next guide I’ll create will be about a smaller, more specific topic.

I’ll aim for something like 7-12k words with it, and focus on getting it out there faster.

If you’re planning on writing your first guide, I encourage you to start small too.

You want to test how Ultimate Guides resonate with your audience andlearn how to create them while having fun.

You don’t want to spend months figuring things out or getting lost in the process, especially if you do not have anybody to hold your hand along the way.

I also encourage you to take into account what kind of a writer you are.

If you don’t have a problem with writing long posts, then it’s OK to create a longer guide. But if you tend to write shorter posts and struggle with writing really long ones, pick a guide that’s shorter and create a longer guide down the road when you’re more comfortable with it.

Mistake #3: I wrote about topics I was not too confident about

If you do a lot of research for your Ultimate Guide in the beginning, you will get a lot of feedback on what you should include in the guide.

This can be good and bad.

When I started writing my guide, I knew that mindset issues plays a huge role in our performance and achieving the results especially with business on the side.

From the feedback I’ve gotten, I saw that other people would want to learn more about solving them.

The problem for me was that I did not have proven solutions and experience with solving them. I have some good tactics which helped me, but I wasn’t too confident about giving too much advice on that topic.

However, because I really wanted to help my readers, I still wanted to write a chapter about those things to satisfy them. That’s what they told me that they want.

And we always tend to please people.

This lead me to a lot of procrastination on writing that chapter.

I did not want to start writing it because I did not have the best of ideas to write about.

Instead, I spent a lot of time researching the materials I could include in the guide. I was trying to learn more about those problems so I could better explain them in the post.

That was a big mistake, because this one chapter delayed writing the guide for a few extra weeks.

What I’ll do differently next time:

Whenever I won’t feel confident about writing about a topic that’s in my Table of contents, I’ll skip it.

I’ll remove it from the Table of Contents and perhaps revisit it down the line once I’m more confident in giving advice about it.

I know that there’s a lot more I can write about. Removing one chapter from my guide will not make or break it.

I encourage you to do the same.

As you’re writing your guide there will also be times when you’ll face the writers block or you will feel like you do not want to write about one section at the moment.

If you’ll still be confident you can write it it does not mean you have to remove it from your guide.

Just skip the chapter for a week or two and jump to the next exciting one. You can always come back later when the inspiration strikes you, or you remember those nice stories you wanted to cover in that chapter.

The most important thing when writing your Ultimate Guide is to keep your momentum going, and keep writing as much as possible in succession which will pretty much ensure that you won’t get stuck.

Mistake #4: I spent too much time editing my guide

I have to admit that my perfectionism prolonged the publishing of the guide by 2-3 months.

That’s because I wanted to make it the most epic guide which would stand out and stand the test of time.

Because I wanted to make sure this would really happen, I spent about 2 months editing the guide.

The guide has 25k words which took quite some time to go through.

As I edited the guide I was played too much with the content, grammar, styling the phrases.

Many times I’ve rewritten sentences more than 5 times to make them easier to read and more “compelling” as if I’d been writing a sales page.

There were also many sections which I thought were not good because I had written them during the sessions where I had lower energy.

I really saw the difference in the quality. And my mentality urged me to rewrite them completely.

And that’s what I did.

This added tens of hours into the process of getting the guide finished.

What I’ll do differently next time:

Next time I won’t spend so much time editing my guide.

I’ll do just one round of editing while focusing just on fixing only broken sections, things that are truly hard to understand, or things that do not fit well the guide as a whole.

I won’t try to make it perfect.

I know that the most important thing is to share my highly valuable advice with my readers.

One unclear sentence or paragraph here and there does not make a huge difference in this long piece of epic content.

What makes the true difference is the content itself.

Instead of making my next guide perfect, I’ll just focus on making it more 10x more epic than anything else out there.

Mistake #5: I tried to include every influencer I knew in the guide

I knew that I can add value to the influencers I wanted to build relationships with by mentioning them in the guide.

Especially by sharing their advice that I’ve implemented in my life. Mentioning the things that they taught that worked for me.

I wanted to spread the word about as many people as possible in my guide, and I created a huge list of people I wanted to include in it:

It was a good intention. But, it cost me many hours by browsing through the articles of influencers to find the best fit for my guide.

And while doing so I got often caught up with reading new articles and then thinking about new ideas. This took my focus away from writing the guide.

What I’ll do differently next time:

Next time, I’ll pick just a few influencers that I want to build relationships with whose advice is already a good fit for your guide.

I won’t try to include everyone, just the people who I already know and that have already helped me with their advice.

I’ll mention the influencers who made a difference in my life or life of my clients that are directly relevant to the topic I’m mentioning in the guide.

If I find myself browsing through their articles to find one that’s a good fit, I’ll skip the influencer and possibly talk about them in one of my future guides.

Mistake #6: Spending a month on my content upgrade

Working on my Ultimate Guide helped me get a lot of clarity around my business idea.

Because of that I decided to create an email course as a main opt-in carrot for my website. I would also use that free course as a content upgrade for the whole guide:

Initially, I thought it’d be easy and fast. I was really convinced and confident.

It turned out to be quite the opposite.

Again, I wanted to make it as best as possible, so it took me ton of time to write email sequence.

Not only writing it took me so much time, but setting everything up on my website and in the email service provider was a lot of work.

It was a whole new project which should have been done after publishing my guide.

This was another thing that delayed publishing my guide by another mont..

What I’ll do differently next time:

I know that creating a content upgrade is a great way to maximize my opt-ins from the ultimate guide.

However, next time I won’t spend a whole month on it and try to make it really big.

Instead I’ll create something crunchy for my readers. Something they could easily implement and will give them immediate results.

For example, I could create a quick cheat-sheet of the tactics from the guide, or a one-page worksheet that would help them implement my advice faster.

Mistake #7: I didn’t enjoy the process all the time

Probably the worst thing I was doing through this project was thinking about the outcomes of it.

I was super excited at the beginning and had a ton of fun working on my guide for the first few weeks.

But then it got into my head and I started to think about the number of subscribers, or even potential coaching clients I could get as a result of publishing the guide.

That’s why I wanted to make it perfect and was doing all of those mistakes mentioned above.

In the process I forgot to have fun with it, to enjoy those quiet early mornings, working sessions in my favorite coffee shop, or the late nights sipping the red wine.

I’ve lost the excitement because I was pushing myself to make it fast and perfect.

What I’ll do differently next time:

Next time I’ll focus on having a lot more fun with my Ultimate Guide. I’ll enjoy the process.

I’ll write about the topics that I like talking about with people. About the advice I give to my readers. And the things I thrive learning more about myself.

If you’re writing your first Ultimate Guide, the best piece of advice I can give you is to have fun with it.

You’ll learn a ton and also get a lot of experience throughout the whole project.

Don’t worry so much about the outcome, and focus on the fact that you are creating something amazing.

Want to get started with writing your first Ultimate Guide?

I hope you’ll be able to use some of this advice to successfully write your first Ultimate Guide.

If you do so, I’m sure it’ll help you create an amazing and very helpful piece of content for your readers.

While enjoying the process and having a lot of fun along.

100 Happy Clients: The ONLY Goal You Need to Grow Your Online Business This Year

By Primoz Bozic 1 Comment

So many people these days focus on helping you “grow your online business” with every tactic, trick and hack imaginable.

Facebook Ads, SEO, Tripwires, Early Bird Bonuses, Facebook Messenger Bots, Subscriber Bribes…

There’s a million and one tactic out there to help you get more of everything.

I used to be one of those people who WANTED more of everything.

I thought that only 3 things mattered in online business:

-Traffic
-Email subscribers
-Sales

And that I should strive to get as many of them as possible.

I was wrong.

There’s a BIG problem with the online business industry that nobody is talking about

Nowadays, everybody is teaching you how to build an online business.

Why?

Because so many people want to create one. There’s a ton of demand.

So it’s easy to say “I’ll be a business coach” and easily make some money.

The problem is that just making money and getting more paying customers isn’t enough.

I’ve joined countless online courses in the past, and while I personally loved them and got great results with them, there was also a big issue with them:

Only a fraction of people who take online courses succeed with them

Yes, there’s always case studies out there that show the courses work.

I’m often one of them – I wrote how I got incredible results with Ramit Sethi’s Zero to Launch and Derek Halpern’s Sales Page That Converts on my blog.

The problem is that people like me are mostly outliers, and not the majority of people who join the courses.

So where’s the problem?

Is it in the courses?

Is it in people joining them?

Is it somewhere else?

I’d say it’s in a little bit of everything.

In the past I focused just on getting more customers, email subscribers and sales.

And my business did well.

I kept getting more and more traffic to my website.

My email list kept growing.

More and more people joined my online courses.

But there was one thing that was constantly at the back of my mind.

This is incredibly hard for me to admit, and even share publicly, but I feel like it NEEDS to be heard.

Very few people that joined my courses actually followed through with them.

Many people would buy my courses, and I’d be happy when I saw that the payment came through…

But then I’d never hear from them again.

This sucked.

It sucked because I wanted to genuinely help people change their lives, but I felt like I wasn’t really doing.

I did all the hard work to get the people to buy… And then I stopped taking care of them.

It’s not that my courses were crappy.

I spent a lot of time creating them, and I know that if people implemented my advice, they would get the results from it.

Unfortunately, many people didn’t actually follow through with my courses – and it was my fault.

I was so focused on getting more of everything, that I forgot about the most important thing.

Going above and beyond for my clients.

Now I have a completely different approach to running my online business

This year, as I launched the Ultimate Guide System for the first time, I said things would be different.

I had a conversation with my mentor and friend Marc Aarons, and I asked him about what kind of an early bonus I should create for my program and when I should release it.

He didn’t give me the answer, and instead asked me an important question:

“With this launch, are you optimizing for revenue or learning?”

At the time, I just said learning.

I wanted to find out how my program would sell without any marketing tactics.

So with my launch, I didn’t include any early bird bonuses, discounts or tiers.

And I’m so happy I didn’t.

As soon as I closed the cart for Ultimate Guide System, I noticed that I had the BEST group of students in the program I’ve ever had.

These were ultra-ambitious entrepreneurs with BIG visions to change the world, who were willing to do whatever it takes to write their Ultimate Guides and grow their online businesses.

Fast forward a few months.

We have 2 coaching calls remaining of the initial Ultimate Guide System intensive training.

And guess what?

Around 50% of the people who are in the program are in the process of writing Ultimate Guides (or finished with them).

And 100% of my 1on1 clients will follow through with writing their Ultimate Guides.

Altogether, my students have written well over 100,000 words, and their Ultimate Guides are looking incredible. Together with my 1on1 clients, that number is closer to 200,000 words.

Some of them are even writing their second guides already.

I’m not making this up. Let me show you some guides that my students have written and published over the last few months:

  • My 1on1 client Allon wrote his Ultimate Guide to High Performance
  • My 1on1 client Frank wrote his Ultimate Guide to Virtual Assistants
  • My 1on1 client Matej wrote How to Find More Time And Energy to Start an Online Business [The Ultimate Guide]
  • My Ultimate Guide System student Diana wrote her Ultimate Guide to Building a Profitable Online Community From Scratch
  • My Ultimate Guide System student Nick wrote The Complete Beginner’s Guide To Monetizing Facebook Live For Your Fitness Or Yoga Business
  • My Ultimate Guide System student Camille wrote The Ultimate Guide to Getting a Date Without Going Online
  • My Ultimate Guide Checklist reader Leslie wrote The Asian Inspired Ultimate Guide to NATURALLY Losing 30 Pounds For Busy, Ambitious Workaholics

Now I’m not showing you this just to brag, even though I love bragging about the amazing work that my students put out.

The point is that for the first time ever, I created an online course that works REALLY well, where my students actually follow through with it.

The success of my CUSTOMERS is now the thing that matters most.

Getting more traffic, email subscribers and sales is secondary.

How focusing on my CUSTOMERS changed my online business

Focusing on making my customers successful made a HUGE difference in my online business.

Well, first of all I feel a lot better when so many of my students are actually following through with the course.

I’m excited to see them grow their online businesses, and make their lives better while doing it.

It makes me feel like I’m not just taking money from people, but actually delivering on the promises that I’ve made to them.

I know that because students are seeing such success with my course, they’re far more likely to buy future courses from me once I create them.

And I know that if I just make them successful, I won’t need to worry so much about spreading the word about my business, since they’ll do it for me.

And it’s already happening.

Here’s what one of my student wrote in their recent Facebook post:

Here’s what another student wrote:

And another one:

These are just some of the many examples out there – and if you follow me on Facebook, you’ll notice that a lot of people are talking about the work I’m doing with them on their Ultimate Guides – and it’s not a coincidence.

Now I know that if I just focus on getting MORE success stories from my work, more and more people will know me, spread the word about me and want to work with me.

It’s that simple.

I don’t need to worry so much about getting more traffic, more email subscribers or more sales any more, because those things will happen anyway as I create more and more success stories.

On the other hand, I do know that I’ll need to spread the word about my business and get more of the RIGHT people into it if I want to create more success stories.

Notice I didn’t just say I need more of ANY people.

I don’t want to get 10,000 more email subscribers that won’t buy my courses or follow through with them.

I want to get more of the RIGHT people who will be the perfect fit for them, and who I know have the best chances of getting great results with them.

In a nutshell, there are only 2 things I need to focus on in my business:

  1. Getting more of the RIGHT people to work with me (through Ultimate Guide System or 1on1)
  2. Making sure that the people that work with me follow through with creating incredible Ultimate Guides

And to take it a step further, I can connect both of these things to just ONE main goal, that I set for myself this year.

My main goal for the year is helping 100 of my students publish their Ultimate Guides

I know that if I manage to create 100 powerful success stories this year, everything else will take care of it’s own.

More and more of the RIGHT people will visit my website (who are actually interested in learning more about Ultimate Guides).

More of my existing readers will join my courses because they’ll see the results that the students are getting with them.

I won’t need to “sell” my courses hard, because they’ll sell themselves.

I also know what are the things I’ll NEED to do to make these 100 Ultimate Guides happen.

  • I’ll need to spread the word about my business and get more of the RIGHT people to hear about me
  • I’ll need to make sure my students follow through with creating their Ultimate Guides
  • I’ll need to help my students consistently get great results with their Ultimate Guides

To spread the word about my business, I’ll create more incredible content like Ultimate Guides myself.

I’ll get more publicity for my business in the right publications / website so more of the RIGHT people hear about me. I’ll build the relationships with other top experts in my niche and find more ways to add value to their audiences.

To make sure my students follow through with creating their Ultimate Guides, I’ll make sure to support them as best as I can in doing it.

I’ll go out of my way to check in with the students that are writing their guides and personally help them finish their guides. I’ll listen to the obstacles that prevent them from finishing their guides and find ways to remove them.

To make help my students consistently get great results with Ultimate Guides, I’ll continue to improve the Ultimate Guide System course.

I’m already making a few major improvements to the program, and I’ll be launching UGS 2.0 in the near future. I’ll bring in other experts who wrote their Ultimate Guides and have them share what worked for them with my students. I’ll really make sure that Ultimate Guide System is the BEST course on creating Ultimate Guides.

And this is literally ALL that I’ll be focusing on this year. Just these 3 things.

No fancy marketing tactics. No new online courses. No other stuff that would distract me from helping my students create 100 Ultimate Guides.

I know that if I just focus on that one goal and those 3 strategies to achieve it, everything else will take care of itself.

Now you might be thinking to yourself “this is great for you Primoz… but what can I do to grow MY business this year?”

I thought about that as I talked to my high performance coach about my main goal for this year.

As I did that, I realized… That while you might not help your students create 100 Ultimate Guides, you CAN get 100 happy clients for YOUR online business.

That’s how the concept of “100 Happy Clients” was born.

And I’m excited to share it with you and walk you through it today!

The 100 Happy Clients Framework

If you just focus on getting 100 happy clients with your business, then everything else will take care of itself.

You won’t need to worry so much about growing your email list. You won’t need to worry about making money or hitting a certain product launch revenue. You won’t need to ask yourself “am I really focusing on the MOST important tasks for my business?”.

Because if you just get 100 happy clients, everything else will become 10x easier.

From attracting more of the right readers to your business, to selling more of your online courses, and getting more 1on1 coaching clients.

You’ll just have ONE goal for your business: 100 happy clients by the end of this year. That’s it.

Before we get into details about how to actually GET 100 happy clients, we need to talk about what a “happy clients” actually is.

What does a “happy client” look like for YOUR business?

By a happy client I mean someone who successfully achieved a result that you promised them to achieve.

It could either be with your FREE, or PAID materials.

  • For my Ultimate Guide System, a happy clients would be a client that has successfully finished and published an Ultimate Guide.
  • If I created an online course about writing 10,000 words / week, a happy client would be a client that would successfully write 10,000 words in a week.
  • If you’re running a weight loss business, a happy clients might be a client that has successfully lost 10lbs.
  • If you’re running a business about creating online communities, a happy client might be a client that has successfully created a profitable online community.
  • If you’re running a business about setting up wordpress websites, a happy client would be a client that has successfully created their wordpress website.

To find out what a happy client is for YOUR business, just ask yourself this question:

“What does success look like?”

What would make your student from an online course or coaching program successful?

What end results are you promising to them?

What results would make them really happy?

If you’re not sure, you can also ask your current students some of these questions.

What does success look like for THEM?

Once you’ve answered these questions, try to define a measurable outcome (like losing 10lbs or creating an Ultimate Guide).

Your measurable outcome should be something that you can immediately put a finger on. You should instantly be able to know if someone has successfully achieved your outcome or not.

Something like “I want to help people write more” isn’t measurable. Writing 10,000 words in a week is.

You don’t need 10 things as your measurable outcome.

Just pick the ONE thing that would be the biggest indicator of your success.

A happy client is a client that has successfully reached your measurable outcome.

That’s it.

Now that you know what a happy client is, let’s look at how we can actually get 100 of them.

Your 3-step roadmap to getting 100 happy clients

To get to 100 happy clients, you really just need to do 3 things:

  • You need to give people the OPPORTUNITY to become happy clients
  • You need to bring more of the RIGHT people to your business (so they can become happy clients)
  • You need to help your students BECOME happy clients by helping them follow through with your advice

If you get those 3 things right, getting to 100 happy clients is just a matter of time.

STEP #1: Give people the OPPORTUNITY to become happy clients

To turn your readers into happy clients, you can help them get to their desired results in one of the following ways:

  • You can help them through your free materials that you publish on your website
  • You can help them by answering questions / jumping on calls with them
  • You can help them by coaching them or helping them through your courses

These are just some of the top ways in which you can create happy clients – of course there’s other avenues as well like public speeches that could work too – but that kind of falls under helping people with free materials.

As you might notice, you don’t NEED to charge people and get 100 PAYING clients in order to get 100 happy clients for your business.

You could create incredible FREE materials like Ultimate Guides on your website that help your students get amazing results and become happy clients.

Like my reader Leslie who created her Ultimate Guide using my Ultimate Guide Checklist and got 500 email subscribers with it in 3 days.

You could help them by answering their questions via email once they subscribe to your email list.

You could jump on 1on1 calls with your email subscribers, like my friend Diana is doing (she’s offering 100 FREE reviews of communities to people signed up to her email list).

You could even host “office hours” or an “ask me anything” in an online community you’re a part of to begin making a name out of yourself and collect some initial happy clients.

I did this when I first started talking about Ultimate Guides (I talked about “epic content creation”, which later turned into Ultimate Guides):

e, you can also offer a coaching program or an online course where you help them achieve the results you’re promising them.

Zero to Launch is a great online course that can help you do just that.

STEP #2: Bring more of the RIGHT people to your business

The BEST way to attract ore of the RIGHT people to your business is by creating incredible content for them.

When you create free content that’s 10x better than anything else in your industry, you won’t just attract more of the right people to your business. You’ll also start collecting happy clients (as mentioned above).

By incredible content, I mean content that people that isn’t just a quick 500 word article, that makes people think “oh, that’s nice” and move on.

I mean content that’s actionable, that actually gets your readers results (and gets you happy clients).

Now of course, creating incredible content isn’t easy.

If it was, everyone would be doing it.

Luckily, there’s a way to LEARN how to create incredible content.

And one of the best ways to do that is by creating an Ultimate Guide – which is usually the most detailed and comprehensive piece of content on a certain topic.

Once you know how to create an Ultimate Guide, creating an incredible blog post or guest posts becomes EASY.

I share my step-by-step system for creating Ultimate Guides (as well as 9 ways in which you can bring more of the RIGHT people to your business with them) in my FREE 13,000+ word Ultimate Guide Checklist.

You can grab your FREE copy of the Ultimate Guide Checklist here.

Once you know how to create incredible content for your business, the next step is to spread the word about your amazing content.

To learn how to do that, check out this free interview I recorded with my friend Selena Soo, who’s the go-to expert on getting more publicity for your business:

In the interview, we go over the specific ways in which you can get more publicity for your Ultimate Guides (as well as how to use Ultimate Guides to get more publicity for your business).

Even if you’re not interested in creating a 10,000+ word Ultimate Guide right now, you can still watch the interview – as the advice Selena shares is widely applicable to anyone who creates really incredible content.

Once you have a consistent stream of new high quality readers coming into your business, there’s just one thing left to do.

You need to turn them into happy clients.

STEP #3: Help your students BECOME happy clients

There’s just one thing you need to do to help your students become happy clients.

You need to go ABOVE AND BEYOND for your students while working with them.

What does that mean?

Let me give you some examples how I go above and beyond for my Ultimate Guide System students (which helps me get a 50% success rate with the program that almost nobody else has):

  • I designed the program in a way that it’s 1 year long, rather than just 8 weeks, because I know that writing Ultimate Guides takes time and I want to be there for my students with every step of the way. If they fall behind, I still want to help them follow through with their guide. If they want to create more guides, I’ll happily help them with that as well.
  • I extended the first part of the course from 10 weeks as originally planned to 14 weeks or so, to prevent students from being overwhelmed and falling behind when the writing phase began – so I’m pacing the course based on their progress.
  • When I launch a new cohort for the course, my old students will have a chance to attend all the live calls etc. again, so they can create their next guide or restart working on the first one if they fell off track.
  • I welcome every student with a 1on1 call, to get to know them and build a relationship with them. I know more or less all of my students by names, their guides that they are working on, their business ideas, etc. – this makes them feel special and helps build a really strong community.
  • I go out of my way to leave feedback for my students on their guides. I review their guides in google docs, give them step by step feedback, help them rewrite some of their copy, etc.
  • I jump on 1on1 calls with them if they really get stuck or need my help.
  • I make sure to always encourage them and celebrate their wins with them, no matter how big or small they might be.
  • I’m happy to go over time with our 90min calls if we need to, in order to help every single student with their guides.
  • I’m jumping on 1on1 calls with all students that have started creating their guides over the next few weeks to help them finish their guides and get them over the finish line
  • I’ll go out of my way to promote their guides once they’re written (of course!).

Most people that run online courses don’t do ANY of these things – and some only do a few them. By doing all of them, I’m able to get such a high success rate with my students, and get so many more “happy clients” for my business.

Feel free to steal some of these ideas to go above and beyond for your own courses, coaching programs or even free materials. They should give you a great start.

Beyond that, you can brainstorm other ways in which YOU can go above and beyond for YOUR students.

To do that, ask yourself questions like:

  • What can I do to help my students follow through with my advice?
  • What are the biggest challenges that might prevent my students from following through with my advice, and how can I remove them for them?
  • What can I do to make it 10x more likely for my students to succeed with my advice?

Don’t be afraid to get creative with this step. It’s totally cool to test your ideas, no matter how crazy they are.

The craziest ideas are usually the best ones anyway, and will really make you stand out from everyone else in your industry.

Once you have some ideas ready, go ahead and test them out!

Share the ideas with your email subscribers. Give them an opportunity to work with you. Go above and beyond for your current clients and students in your online courses.

Slowly but surely, you’ll get more and more happy clients for your business

The secret I didn’t tell you about yet

There’s one thing I left out when I talked about the 100 happy clients framework.

It might actually be the BEST part of the framework.

So hear me out…

All of these strategies work TOGETHER with each other, build off of each other and help you get exponentially more happy clients for your business.

Let’s say…

  • You can get 10% more of the RIGHT PEOPLE to your business
  • You can give your readers 10% more OPPORTUNITIES to become your happy clients
  • You help 10% more people that you help actually BECOME happy clients

How many more happy clients will you have for your business?

You’ll have 33% more happy clients for your business (1.1*1.1*1.1).

So even if you just SLIGHTLY improve the amount of the right people you get into your business, give them one more opportunity to work with you, and help 10% more of the people actually follow through with your advice, you’ll get 33% more happy clients for your business.

Now let’s ramp up the numbers to something more ambitious.

What if you could DOUBLE the amount of the RIGHT PEOPLE you bring to your business, the amount of OPPORTUNITIES they have to work with you, and the amount of people that FOLLOW THROUGH with your advice?

You’ll have 800% more happy clients for your business (2*2*2).

This means that if you have 10 happy clients right now, you’d be able to get 80 happy clients by doing this.

How cool is that?

Now of course, doubling all of those numbers isn’t as easy as it sounds on paper, but that doesn’t mean it’s not doable.

It’s TOTALLY doable in a year, even in half a year, or even in a few months, IF you focus on the strategies above.

How to get started with getting your 100 happy clients TODAY

If you’re onboard with the idea of getting to 100 happy clients for YOUR business, I suggest you do three things over the next 2 minutes to get started today.

  1. Start out by committing to getting to 100 happy clients in your business this year. You can also leave a comment below with your commitment.
  2. Define what a happy client looks like for your business. What’s the one measurable outcome that would make your client a happy client?
  3. Get started with the first step of the “Happy Client Framework” – getting more of the RIGHT people into your business.

My favorite way of doing that is by creating Ultimate Guides.

With Ultimate Guides, I’ve attracted 278,958+ website visitors and 6,150+ email subscribers to my website – and they helped me generate $300k+ in revenue with my online business.

You can learn all about how I did that (and how you can use Ultimate Guides to get to your 100 happy clients) by getting your FREE copy of my 13,000+ word Ultimate Guide checklist.

Just leave your name and email below and I’ll send it straight to your inbox!

Enjoy!

10 Powerful Lessons From Selena Soo’s Life-Changing Mastermind

By Primoz Bozic 15 Comments

Did you ever want to be a fly on the wall at an exclusive mastermind, full of 6-7 figure online business owners who are changing the world?

To hear about the things they’re talking about behind closed doors?

The powerful breakthroughs they get, that will completely change the trajectory of their business?

And the lessons they take away, that makes flying all over the world to spend a day in a mastermind all worth it?

If yes, you’re in luck.

Last week I attended an exclusive mastermind that my friend Selena Soo in NYC, and it was easily one of the BEST events I’ve attended in a while.

At the mastermind, it was me and 9 other Selena’s friends and students, all of which were incredible entrepreneurs that are changing the world:

Adrienne Dorison, Alexia Vernon, Amanda Daley, Emily Williams, Kathleen Ventura, Kimra Luna, Lisa Fabrega, Luisa Zhou and Sarah Kaler

I walked away from the mastermind with tons of amazing lessons, takeaways and insights, and today, I’d love to share them with you.

Some of these were the lessons that Selena shared with us at the mastermind (that I interpreted in my own way), and others are lessons that I got throughout the mastermind by talking to other

Let’s dive in!

LESSON #1: Focus on attracting GREAT clients to your business

Don’t try to attract as many clients as possible to your online programs. Don’t write copy like “have you tried everything, but nothing ever worked? because you’ll attract people who are overwhelmed, have low confidence, and are all over the place.

You’ll spend more time helping them out than your star students, they’ll spread negativity through your community, and it’s likely they won’t be successful with your program.

Instead, spend time attracting action takers with big visions who are willing to do anything it takes to become successful.

Attracting high level clients will allow you to charge more, get better testimonials and case studies, and they’ll value your time a lot more than the bad clients.

In case someone very toxic and negative makes it into your program or onto your email list and they start complaining all the time, don’t engage with them. Refund them, unsubscribe them, ban them from buying the future programs from you and move on to helping people who deserve your time.

LESSON #2: You need to be careful with what you give

You don’t need to respond to every single email you get. You don’t need to respond to every single Facebook message and comment in your community within minutes.

If you do, people will take it for granted and start to expect that you always respond to them in minutes, which will take the time and energy that you could spend on growing your business, or creating content that would help more than just one person.

Even though Selena is one of the biggest givers I know, she’s learning how to say no to more and more opportunities and requests for her time, which allows her to work ON her business, and not just IN her business.

Because so many people were tagging her in one of her Facebook communities, she created community guidelines where she asked people not to tag her all the time, and it freed up a lot of time for her to focus on what matters most.

Saying no to people or ignoring their messages and emails can be hard, but at one point you just need to do it if you want to create a 6, 7 or 8-figure business. The earlier you can do it, the more people you’ll be able to help.

LESSON #3: Spend more time in your genius zone

Focus on doing the things that you’re the best in the world at, and work with people who are great at things that you’re not.

If you’re a great writer but a bad speaker, don’t worry about doing public speeches and focus more of your time on writing really incredible content.

Selena’s not great at preparing speeches. It takes her months for her to prepare a public speech, so she almost never does it, and just does Q & A sessions instead that take her a much shorter time to prepare.

For her exclusive mastermind, she partnered up with someone who’s an incredible public speaker and can put together a speech and get a standing ovation in 10 minutes. They compliment each other’s weaknesses and make a great team.

Always ask yourself what you’re REALLY great at, that nobody else can do, and do more of that. Stop doing the things that you’re not great at, and either hire or partner up with people that can do the work that you can’t do that well better and faster than you can.

LESSON #4: To become a true leader, you sometimes need to ignore what everyone else says

You should always do the customer research and listen to what your market says, but sometimes you shouldn’t be afraid to do the opposite.

When Selena created her online course about building authentic relationships with influencers (INFLUENCE), all of her mentors thought it was a bad idea and told her she shouldn’t create it.

Deep down, she felt like she really needed to create that course, so she took the time to do it right. She found the right marketing and messaging for it, and now it’s one of her best-selling programs.

When she started selling premium online courses and wanted to charge $3k for them, everyone told her that $3k is the “dead zone” that will never convert well, and that she should charge $2k instead. She instead decided to create incredible programs and charge what she thought they’re worth, and her courses sold well.

Whenever doing something new that nobody is doing (but you feel is important), you need to have the courage to do it anyway and find a way to make it work, even if everyone is telling you it’s a bad idea.

That’s what it’s like to be a leader. You need to have enough courage to do the things that have never been done, or that people think are impossible, and prove them wrong.

LESSON #5: If your business idea feels “too small”, you can be the person that makes it BIG

When I heard Selena’s story about how she created her INFLUENCE program about networking even though everyone told her she shouldn’t, I could see myself in her story.

That was the same thing that happened with me and Ultimate Guides. When I started working on Ultimate Guide System, my course on creating Ultimate Guides, a lot of people told me that they can’t see how they could grow their online business with them.

A lot of people even told me that my idea isn’t a good one and that I should stick with something else that’s already out there. Nobody ever created a course on Ultimate Guides before, so that means that they can’t be that important.

I knew that there was some truth in this. When I did my research I saw that most people didn’t really think that creating Ultimate Guides was the best use of their time. But what I did see is that a lot of people cared about growing their email lists, getting more clients and getting their online business off the ground.

I knew that Ultimate Guides could help with all of those things, so I bridged the gap between Ultimate Guides and getting those results with personal stories, as well as case studies from friends and experts that created Ultimate Guides.

During the mastermind, I realized that compared to businesses from the other people in the room, my Ultimate Guides idea felt small to me. I felt like nobody cares about Ultimate Guides because teaching health coaches how to get more clients sounds a lot better and more impactful.

I reframed my thoughts and realized that that’s what people CURRENTLY think about them. But it doesn’t mean that people would never care about them.

My friend Navid Moazzez essentially brought the concept of Virtual Summits to the online business industry and built a 7-figure business around it, and there’s no reason why I wouldn’t be able to do the same with Ultimate Guides. I would just need enough case studies and success stories to show people just how important they really are.

If you’re ever feeling like nobody cares about what you do, don’t let that hold you back from pursuing your big dreams. Even if people don’t care about the specific thing you offer (yet), they probably do care about the results that you can bring them if you take their advice.

If you know that what you have to say is important, connect it to what people want. Commit to MAKING it big and important. Get enough case studies and success stories that people won’t be able to ignore you any more.

This is your hidden opportunity to establish yourself as an expert on something that nobody else is doing or teaching, so take that opportunity and use it to your advantage!

LESSON #6: You ARE good enough, even though others are more successful than you

Some of the mastermind attendees ran businesses that were 10x bigger than my business, and yet they’ve been running them for half the time that I ran mine.

When I first learned about that, I felt like a failure and like I’m not good enough. I thought that their ideas were so much better than mine and that I’ll never be as successful as them.

Then I changed my mindset, and instead of feeling shitty I started talking to them, learning from them and asking them for advice. It turned out that those were some of the most helpful conversations I’ve had all week.

They even told me how much they loved my idea and how amazing my story was, which I never expected to happen given how far ahead of me they were.

There will always be people who are better and more successful than you. But comparing yourself to them, feeling jealous of them or thinking that you’re not as good as them won’t get you anywhere.

Instead, spend the time talking to them, learning from them, and figuring out what they’re doing differently than you are so you too can become as successful as they are.

If your business idea doesn’t sound as cool or as fancy as another person’s business idea, that’s normal. They probably feel the same way about ideas from other people to some extent. Remember, the neighbour’s grass is always greener.

LESSON #7: Your environment is the #1 thing preventing you from thinking big

In Slovenia, the average salary is $1k/month. If you make $3k/month, you’re considered a tycoon that must be doing something illegal. If you make $5k/month, you don’t ever need to worry about making money again.

For me, that’s a blessing and a curse. It’s nice to not have to worry about making money, but it also prevents me from thinking way bigger, because I simply don’t need to in order to make ends meet.

If I lived in Manhattan, I would need to make 5x more money to have the same lifestyle that I have right now. And I would need to think way bigger to make it happen.

Every time I go to NYC, I come home thinking WAY bigger than when I spend all of my time in Slovenia. It’s because I spend a week surrounded by people who think big, and it’s contagious.

Now I know I need to surround myself with more people like that and keep in touch with them, and make it an even bigger priority to go to the states more often.

If you ever find that you’re not thinking big enough, try to change your environment. Read books by people who accomplished big things. Listen to people who talk about accomplishing big things. Connect with people that think way bigger than you.

The more time you spend immersed in an environment that brings you up rather than brings you down, the bigger you’ll be able to think, and the more your business will grow.

LESSON #8: You don’t need to find a personal brand, because you already have one

The biggest thing I wanted to get out of the mastermind is to get clearer on how I should brand myself. Should I be the Ultimate Guide guy? A business coach? Something completely different?

When I started talking about this in my “hot seat”, someone asked me what’s my motivation. Why am I even doing what I’m doing? What’s the story?

I shared my story with them about how I went from being a college dropout who never fit in with people around me to working with Ramit Sethi and building a successful online business out of Slovenia.

Everyone at the mastermind loved that story, and told me to stop looking for my personal brand, because that story IS my brand. That’s what makes me unique and different from everyone else. And the more people that hear about my story, the more my brand will grow, and the more people I will reach.

If you’re like me and you spend hours and hours thinking about how to change the copy on your website and create a message that really connects with the people and makes you different, remember that you already have your own brand.

Your story is your brand. Focus on putting your story in front of more people, and your brand will slowly grow by itself. You can later refine your messaging and your branding, but you don’t need to spend months figuring out how to “find” it, because you already have it.

LESSON #9: Strive to be the least successful person in the room

This mastermind was the one that I participated in the least. I rarely had good feedback to offer to others, because we were talking about things like branding or building a large team that I wasn’t an expert on. I just sat quietly, took notes and soaked in all the information I could.

In the moment, I felt guilty about that, and I wished I could have contributed more. Then, the next day, I realized that this was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. It was the mastermind where I learned the most, out of all the masterminds I attended.

Usually, when I’d be in a mastermind where I was one of the most successful people in the room, I’d give a lot of advice and feel good about that, but I wouldn’t feel like I’ve learned a whole lot from it.

During this mastermind I was surrounded by people more successful than me and felt like the least successful person in the room. Because we talked about things that I wasn’t good at, I was able to learn a lot of new things and concepts that I never would have on my own.

I know that I’ll take their advice, put it into action, then let them know about how I did it a few months from now, and I know they’ll be super excited to hear it.

It’s always nice to give back and connect with your students, readers and people that you’ve met over the years. But if you want to uncover the biggest business breakthroughs, make sure you put yourself in situations where you’re the least successful person in the room.

And just because you spend a lot of time quietly listening to people who are more successful than you are, it doesn’t mean that you can’t add value to them. Successful people love people who listen to them, take their advice and let them know about the results they got with it. It always makes their day!

LESSON #10: If you want to build a business that impacts millions of people, you need to think BIG

As I spent two days around all of these incredible entrepreneurs, I noticed they all had one thing in common. They all had HUGE visions, much bigger than most people I usually hang out with.

I also noticed that they were leaders by choice, not by accident. They had an idea of what the world should look like, and about what needs to change about it. And they weren’t afraid to let the whole world know about it and make that change happen.

That big vision then spread into everything they did and talked about. From thinking about the level of people they wanted to have as clients, to which media they wanted to be featured in.

In that room, it was ok to say “I want to work with celebrities and raise awareness about using less disposable bottles”. It was ok to say “I want to be on Oprah in the next 1-2 years”.

All of these incredible women believed that they could work with the most successful people in the world, and that their message is so important that it should be all over TV, all over the magazines and even all over the Instagram accounts of celebrities.

That’s one of the biggest mistakes I made in the past. I never thought big enough. I always set small goals for myself that would slowly grow my business, but wouldn’t change the world or create a true movement or a revolution. Which is already changing.

If you want to build a business that impacts millions of people and changes the world, that surely won’t happen over night. And if you always think about how to just get 100 more email subscribers or how to get one more client or how to make $1,000 more, you might never get there.

If you want to build a business that impacts millions of people and changes the world, you’ll need to think BIG. Perhaps 10x bigger than you’re thinking right now. Or 100x bigger. And then you need to go out, play big, and hustle to make that big vision happen.

Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t. I know you do, if you put your mind to it. It won’t be easy, and it won’t be happen overnight. But with the right vision, the right drive and the right strategy, anything is possible.

What’s next?
